Lemmy Lemmy: Do you know how the old FAC program was handled? You went into the local police station and showed the Firearms Officer that you'd passed a gun safety course. Then he'd write your name on a card and file it in whatever cabinet your local Firearms Officer used as storage. Then he'd pull out a blank FAC paper card and type your name on it (with a ribbon type-writer) and hand it to you. There was no number on it or any way to link it to anything practical. Records were paper, no way to share between jurisdictions and once a person changes addresses, the file's obsolete. That is, if there IS a file, because, more likely, the Firearms Officer retired or transfered or lost the files completely. Malarky! I'll see if I can find my old certificate. It was registered & on file in Ottawa, Had a # and was printed on a paper with similar 'security features' as our paper money. Perhaps someone else here has one which they can use to support either your claim or mine.

I'm looking at my FAC right now. It's on pink card paper. It has some swirly embossed border (kind of like on a paper note) but no number. It has my name and signature and the Firearms Officer's name and signature (both of which are nearly worn illegible) and a Guelph Police Seal with the date of issue (May 29, 1988).

tritium tritium: kenmore kenmore: The gun registry is a diversion for the torys.. always will be. They keep it hot to take the heat off the real issues that need to be dealt with. gee, real issues, such as? How about towns full of people so goddam broke-ass for so long they PHONE me to ask how much one blank CD is? A whole fucking dollar you penniless fuckwad! THink you can afford ONE?I used to think it was just my town was CHEAP, but I see crowds of two, maybe even four people shuffling down the street window shopping at Fields in Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, Smithers, Terrace. It's getting really annoying, how about getting these people working instead of the same 50 assholes getting paid to sit on committees and come up with things that don't fucking get anyone employed but those same 50 assholes.

My FAC had a number.
This is just another example of the nanny state.
Trusting the current crop Of Liberal "MP's" is like watching cows climbing tree's.

$1: How about towns full of people so goddam broke-ass for so long they PHONE me to ask how much one blank CD is? A whole fucking dollar you penniless fuckwad! THink you can afford ONE? Holy crap that's pricey. I picked up a 50 pack of Sony CD-Rs - because some people are too cheap to buy an MP3/MP4 player- for some students. It cost me about $6

Trusting the current crop Of Liberal "MP's" is like watching cows climbing tree's. My FAC had a number on it as well. It sort of dissolved in the washing machine, a few years back. Mind you, if I'm really angry, I can rely on more than mere firearms to get my point across.

The only number on mine is the date. May 29, 1988. Or maybe it's Mar 29, 1988. Kind of hard to read anymore. Maybe mine's an older version? Are yours' on pink paper like mine? Like the old paper drivers' licences.

The 'artist tax' is 20c per CD. You need to get out more often, try to buy ONE pencil or just the orange crayon, not the whole box. It's 2010 and the 5 and 10c store's are gone.
But the Tories still have their gun issue to drag on and on and on and on and on....

No artist tax on CDs or DVDs here. Asian copyright means, 'it's a copy, right?'

On a more positve note
The long gun registry has really taken the heat off buying a handgun, before the madness started with long guns there was a lot more emphasis on handguns when you bought one you had to pay for it, take the green certificate down to the police station get a permit to take the gun from the sellers address to the police station for verification then get another permit to take it home, all this was done during the hours the firearms officer was on duty and there was only one, sometimes the entire process could weeks ! From there you had a type written carry permit stating you were allowed to transfer your gun to the range indicated on the permit by the most direct route with no stops. Now when you buy a gun the seller phones the registry gets a transfer number then you phone and complete the transfer after a few days you are cleared to pick up the gun. My carry permit is good for all shooting ranges in Saskatchewan and places of repair, if I stay in a motel the gun must kept in a locked box in the trunk of my vehicle, (I drive a SUV so I haven’t figured that out yet.) but it has not come up either. I just bought an 1860 army I phoned the registry to do the transfer and I received an amended carry permit with the 1860 on it within two days, I am still waiting for the gun to arrive in the mail.

Job's are there, it's just these " fuckwads" as you put it were earning $20 per/hr before and the only job available is for $8 per/hr.. but that's not good enough for them so the sit on welfare rather than getting a job. It's the nanny state syndrome... But you're a bleeding heart Liberal, just sign your check over to them, and quit trying to tax everyone else to death to pay for these lazy bastards.

I really don't think the LGR will be around for much longer anyways. Neither will Harpers minority Govt. Thanks to those who voted for the lgr! http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/20 ... 44146.html
