LAck of evidence??? 4 people survived this shooting and they don't have enough evidence to convict? I gotta wonder what was held back, gang ties, drugs??? Something was for sure.

Gilao, a grieving dad himself, alleged continuing racism against blacks and vowed the Somalian community is "going to fight back."

His son Loyan Ahmed Gilao, 22, was gunned down with a friend outside the Phoenix Nightclub on Aug. 8, 2005. His killer has never been caught.

What does a Phoenix nightclub shooting have to do with one in Ontario? (other than 2 black kids) I see no connection.

A Phoenix nightclub has nothing to do with this. The Phoenix is likely a nightclub in Toronto!

I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Of course there are 'no witnesses'. The Somali community ( not all members) is well known to harbor a particularly vicious gang which is trying to take over the drug scenes not only in Toronto but also in every major city. This past summer several Somali gang members from Ont. were killed in Edmonton when they tried to take over. 'No witnesses' in any of those cases either.
I don't for a moment think the families support such activity, rather it is individuals who have decided to band together and take over. The answers to 'who' lies within their own families. It is not the fault of the police in any of the cities. The faults and solutions must come from within the Somali communities.

I'm curious does dad actually think it's safer in Somalia? 8O Things would have to improve immensely there for it to be considered anarchy!

I understand he's upset but his statements only show the old brain box isn't functioning on all cylinders.

Of course it must be racism. That's always the case when crimes against anyone not white aren't solved immediately.

Yogi - The Phoenix is a club. I've been there and never saw it violent before. Creepy.

And getting people to come forward and testify in these cases is always incredibly hard for the police. The culture is many minority communities is to not cooperate with the police.

Come on Lily. Where's the magic solution?
While it sounds like most of us here would love to convict and sentance/deport someone, maybe you have a better solution that involves giving them money, a house or apartment, maybe even a job in the never ending civil service?
I'm sure there's some way we can buy our way out of this..

He wants to fight violence with more violence.

Gosh - sounds like the makings of a gang war to me.

Its all cons like him know. Despite the abundance of evidence showing that a large scale penal system doesn't work the cons would add billions and billions to our taxes they still want to jail everybody from jaywalking and up.

They keep failing because they look for a magic solution rather then doing a little hard work. There is no magic solution but there is truth and thats if you treat people like animals they will act like it.

The gangsters that were all shot in Vancouver were already known to police and out on recent bail on charges that involved illegal firearm offenses. If the BC judges used the manditory firearm sentances that are now on the books, those shootings would not have happened.
Those are the undeniable facts.

You'd better check with "The Dose" though because he's saying we didn't go far enough. He trying to put the "tough on crime" back in the Liberano talking points.
