OnTheIce OnTheIce:
If that's the harshest you've read, you don't read much of what many of us conservatives write and focus on the negative.

I don't call it "silly" when parties support each other, as they should in a minority situation. When Harper does work with the parties, he's starting a "coalition".

When the other parties don't support him, he's the "evil dictator" that will work with nobody.

Regardless of what Harper did, it wouldn't please anyone on the left. Nobody.

Perhaps if he wasn't constantly trying to kneecap the other parties, they would be willing to work with him. Most of the problems Harper has had were due reactions to his own policies. The coalition probably wouldn't have appeared if Harper hadn't tried to wipe everyone else out.

Same goes for this recent vote. The Liberals supported his government for 70-something consecutive votes, but finally had enough when he wasn't willing to work with them. So, instead of working with Ignatief, he launched a series of attack ads on him and then made backroom deals with the NDP and Bloc to support him. Does that sound like the actions of someone trying to get along or a bully?

I understand it's in his nature to 'go for the throat' so to speak, but he (and his supporters) shouldn't be surprised when his victims decide enough is enough and stand up to his bullying tactics.

Then "they" should stop acting like victims, attempting to form a coalition was surreptitious at best.

Tapes proved that Layton and Gilles already planned on the coup. They just needed a village idiot to go along with their scheme and they found him in Dion.

Reality check - Harpers monority government is the longest lasting minority government in Canadian history. If he was even half as bad as you claim, surley he would have been voted out by now.

His "victims" have propped up his government for over 3 years.

Governments always play politics when in power. To expect otherwise is naive.

To expect the government to grovel and kiss ass is equally naive. Cooperation is a two way street. Just because you refuse to compromise and work together on your demands, doesn't make Harper a bully. It makes you uncooperative and a hypocrite.

As for this most recent developments, Harper worked with Ignatieff and put together the panel on EI. However, the Liberal members within the panel, REFUSED to budge off the 360 Hour issue.

There was no negotiation. No common ground. It was 360 hours for the Liberal members of the panel or nothing.

Liberals said:
$1:
"We tried, and we haven't been able to work with the government," said Liberal human resources critic Mike Savage. "It started off in June, it is now September and we still haven't seen anything serious ... they are not easy people to work with."

Conservatives said:

$1:
Human Resources Minister Diane Finley said she is "disappointed" Liberals walked out but said they refused to budge on a 360-hour entry point for EI benefits.

So Harper gets together with Ignatieff, agrees to form a panel about EI and those Liberals added to the panel have specific instructions not to budge on the 360 issue?

Who's not working with who here?
