Still, when the time comes for me to upgrade to a larger vehicle, I'll be moving to a TDI SUV (like the Audi Q7 maybe)
If you buy a Q7, please don't come crying to me about how you pay too much taxes and raising the minimum wage will make your venti latte cost a bit more. Actually I wish you'd cut that out even when you're driving your Jetta. A Q7
starts at over 50k and the diesel version has gotta be a lot more.
My coffee drinking habits (I don't drink coffee at all) are not the reason I don't support raising minimum wages.
As I have explained on several occasions, I worked at minimum wage here in Alberta for almost a decade, and a 25 cent increase here and a 25 cent increase there never made an appreciable change in my standard of living - education and job training did.
That's why I believe that money spent on increasing minimum wage would be better spent by increasing grants for people to take training courses, learning a trade, or getting a degree.
I also feel that minimum wage jobs are not meant to be a lifelong career - just a place to gain experience (for youth) or a place to wind down one's life to supplement income (seniors).
As for the TDI Q7 (nicely equipped is the euphemism I believe) starts at about $62,000 or so. That's why I said if a car company made a hybrid or diesel minivan, I'd buy that instead. However, no one does, and at some point in the future I will need a vehicle with third row seating. My choices are either a SUV or minivan and I don't really care which one - I just want the most fuel efficient model. My preference is towards the BlueTech TDI though, because not only is it incredibly fuel-efficient, it also emits less CO2 than gasoline powered engines the same size.
