For violent offences sure.

He will have no problem passing the legislation if he sticks to the kind of offences he's standing up and talking about. Hopefully that's what he does.

i must say I am very surprised with the bill, I mean we dont want Karla to get a pardon but this new proposed law has nothing to do with her.

The Pardon Law should not change because of media and just in the case of one person. Karla is just a bad apple and she should have been punished and prosecuted differently.
the Law change will simply put more criminals in the society, the new Law will be unfair and unjustified for many people. many people have been long waiting for their Pardon.
this law change is not about just sex offenders and murderers and violent crimes, it pretty much affects anyone convicted of an offence.
for example if you are convicted of fraud over 5000 or you are a sex offender you are treated the same way with the new pardon law.
Harper is playing with people's emotions and he is trying to scoop up votes.
10% of canadians have a criminal record and most of them are non violent.

Karla was convicted of crimes far, far below the level of her offense.

The fact she is now pardonable is no more indicative of the failure of our pardon system then the time she spent in minimum security playing with puppies and lolling on the grass with her pedophile girlfriend or her prompt release from prison.

It was how the police bungled the investigation and how no one has ever bothered to point out that the Scarborough Rapist never killed anyone but the Dynamic Duo killed their victims half the time at the trial.

I just can't imagine she'd actually get a pardon, law change or not.

Big deal, so Karla is eligible for a pardon this summer. Does anyone here really think it'll improve her situation any?
The fact that bitch only served 12 years should be reason enough to be pissed off.

I was thinking the same thing. She's living in what, the Bahamas, under an assumed name. I doubt she cares much if she gets a pardon or not, she's too busy ROTFL .

Anguilla I think.

But then it's not like she's retired. She's just off the radar.

Makes me wonder what Karla's been doing in her spare time then...

Given that's he's flip-flopped on all sorts of issues since 2006, I can't see him sticking to anything unless it helps catapult him into a majority. And I don't see pardons as the ticket to the big time for Steve, so I'm guessing this will fall by the wayside like so many of his other promises.

Nah, she didn't head down there till 2007. The blond in the poster was fish bait long before Karla arrived.
