Iggy as a leader needs time to grow just as much as Harper did.

If he takes much longer the Liberal party will be a distant echo whispered on the wings of a fickle wind.

People keep saying that and yet the Liberals ares till polling much better then the reform did, the alliance did, and of course the PCs did. They are also polling much better then the NDP have ever done. Its true their numbers suck but they are a far cry from the destruction of the PC party and they aren't anywhere as low as <20% the reform & PCs got in 93, and 97; and the 12% the PCs got in 2000. Only the 25% the Alliance got came close.

The time might actually come for a unite the left which quite frankly is the rights greatest fear since it would mean they'd never win another election again.

DerbyX DerbyX:

Doesn't say much about Harper that under his leadership that new party lost over 8% support nationally did it and the only reason it wasn't worse is the right wing had no other options to choose from. The left has 3 choices for their vote and a united left would over power a united right by a wide margin.

Iggy as a leader needs time to grow just as much as Harper did.

You mean, a "new" party and a pretty much unknown leader would lose support? Why, how about we ignore common sense to make a point? Well done, Derby.

Your man, the International superstar and famous educator and author takes the reigns of the "Big Red Machine" and drives that sucker into the ground. Hard.

You have grass roots. You have party history. You have a dominance in Canadian politics as a party.

He's not some random MP from BC that just became a leader of a newly founded party, this is the hand-picked leader of the Liberal Party of Canada!

No matter how much Glade you spray on this turd, it still smells like shit.

That "new" party was just the same old cons with a new name and Harper was as much of an unknown as Iggy was.

Funny that the clowns expecting Iggy to become an instant success are the ones that would never vote for him in the first place.

u contraire, mon ami!

We all know the Conservative party wasn't just the same old Conservatives. Let's not pretend, ok?

Secondly, us Conservatives aren't the ones who expected him to be an instant success.

Let's review:

Liberals parachuted him into his riding without a vote from the membership.

Liberals parachuted him to Leader, again, without a vote.

You know as well as I, that there were high hopes from this scholar from Harvard.

He was pushed into a position where he could make a difference and he has, albeit falling on his face wasn't in the cards.

There were high hopes but the people I see complaining he isn't an instant success are you guys who would never vote for him anyway.

Like I said before Harper was no great shakes as a new leader and neither was the CPC. They did worse then they expected, much worse. If you recall they were dismayed at the lack of support they received and didn't expect to drop 8% support. They figured they'd get at least close to the combines support of the PC and Alliance parties but they didn't. They expected to receive a boost from the "renewed vigor" of the now untied right but didn't.

It took a long time for Harper so why should it be so easy for Iggy?

I love that one... Who's mixing the extra strong red kool-aid tonight?
This guy was lured up to Canada with promises of running the place. He's not going to be happy sitting on as some back bencher or has been.

I'm betting that if he gets trounced from this election, you libs will drop him and he'll bail the country again.

Maybe they can form a new party by amalgamating with the NDP. Here's a name suggestion; "The Left Banque". Since, you know, the majority of Canadians are left of centre.(according to Derby X, although no proof was supplied) What was that famous quote of Chretien's? Oh yeah, " A proof is a proof, and that makes a good proof" or mutterings to that effect.

For the guy failing to provide a shred of proof in the crime stats thread and got his ass handed to him that's a funny statement.

All you have to do is look at the %support for left parties vs right parties. Voila.

Coming from the guys who destroyed their own parties, 3 of them to be precise you have no leg to stand on.
