ya you gotta wonder about a guy who starts talking about Iran like this...

So, Jeff, what would it take to convince you ?

Mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv ?

Or would you then start to deny that such a rocket came from Tehran ?

Yeah, we've seen this play before. Only it was Iraq.

Yea, but the UN wasn't doing the shouting then. They are now.

I imagine Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons technology. Why wouldn't they? They're bascially backed into a corner at this point. I know I would if I were in their shoes. The US is basically surrounding them with bases. Their main regional competitor, Israel, has nuclear capability. Perhaps they have aggressive intentions, but it is also worth noting that the only hope they have of not being invaded/attacked is to acheive d'etente through nuclear weapons.

But I don't believe much that I hear from Iran, Israel, the US or the UN. I assume that these organizations are each acting to further their own interests, despite any noises they are making otherwise.

I am still waiting for actual credible evidence that Iran has a nuclear project. All I have ever heard on this subject is the USA shouting to everyone that Iran has nukes and never showing any real proof. A look at their history shows Iran is the kind of nation you want to be on good terms with and not do everything in your power to fuck up.

Maybe somebody should teach politicians some elementary schoolyard logic about making friends.

The Iranians have complained about the Stuxnet virus - a virus that was deliberately designed to destroy nuclear centrifuge devices. Such devices are used to refine uranium into a fissile material called 'yellowcake'.

And they ain't going to be using that for anything but a nuclear weapon.

I just did a quick wikipedia skim, all I have found is accusations by the US who then convince the UN to apply more sanctions (Not that hard to do nowadays), all of which started after 9/11. I am still waiting for anything other than "we have reason to believe they are building nukes", that's the same word that said Iraq had WMDs. Not exactly reliable.

Let's all admit the truth.

We will never actually know the truth.

Do we take the word of known liers and thieves...any and every countries political bodies?

Or do we say...fuck it, nobody do anything?

I am kind of with jeff on this one. IEA was very indirect until just very recently.

What changed? What could Iran have possibly done in one year that would have made IEA go from abstract comments to definitives?

Something is up and my gut says it has jack all to do with nukes.

Edit:
Just wanted to add (from article):
$1:
Tensions have been rising between Iran and the West since the release of a report earlier this month by the International Atomic Energy Agency that said for the first time that Tehran was suspected of conducting secret experiments whose sole purpose was the development of nuclear arms.

Bolded part by me.

Complete and seperate side.

Why does the world jump to blockades and sanctions so quickly? They won't work. They will just make matters worse. The weapon isn't the threat, the ideology of the weapon user dictates the threat.

Remove the ideology. Open the borders, open trade, open as much civil transfer as you can. The less we (and they) see 'us vs them' the less chance for wars. Nobody likes to kill another 'us'...all to easy to kill a 'them'.
