New Zealand's main internet provider is brought down by volume of people clicking on links to fake celebrity nude photos

New Zealand faced an internet meltdown after people tried to view what they thought were new celebrity nude photos that had been leaked.

The country's main internet provider Spark New Zealand, formerly Telecom crashed causing an uproar with their customers.

Customers have been fuming that service has been down from Friday and it was only fully repaired on Sunday.

From what I've read, that's the best way to deal with situations like that. Especially if your famous. Copyright the photos then claim infringement on the offending sites. You won't get all of them of course. But you can get them off a lot of sites.

I guess you have never heard of the Streisand effect. Making copyright claims and trying to remove things from the internet is the worst possible reaction. Anything else that's even remotely possible that you might do would be better than trying to black out or censor something.

The best way to deal with situations like this is to ignore it.

The affected people need to suck it up and let the fracas lose steam instead of keeping it in the media with legal manuvers.
