Toro Toro: People will not fundamentally alter their lifestyles. Full-stop. Too (sad) but true. People want to help the environment, they just don't want to do what it takes to do so.

And yet if they are given the options, many people take them. In Layton's case, that means buying carbon credits on the campaign trail. Let's face it, you can't run a campaign in Canada without renting a plane and using it extensively.
If private enterprise had the ability to address the problem alone, it would have already done so. Not only hasn't it, but it has resisted all efforts by governments to force it to.
It's nice that the anti-environment people have decided to attack Layton on this, but the reality is that he rented a fuel-efficient jet and bought credits. PM Steve, that towering example of denialism and idiocy, not only refused to purchase carbon credits but has refused to release his environmental platform. Instead he has said he'll tell us little things like what it will cost after the election.

Rev says "but.. but.. but.. deflection" Why do the NDP hate the enviroment, Blair? Why do they lie so much? While you smear Harper, you miss the bigger target, Dion. The ex-Air Inuit 737 named ProfessAir is one of the worst in the air, let alone the campaign. It already lost a generator and might not even be flying still. If I liked the guy, I be worried about poor Robert Fife from CTV, who paid $100,000 just to ride along.

Dion's buying offset credits too. He got the best plane he could under his circumstances.
I know you guys would love to campaign in a jet while everybody else rode horses, but that's your tough luck.
If there were non-polluting planes out there, I'm sure the NDP would rent one for the campaign. There aren't, so they buy credits. Your party, for all of its bragging about how much money it has, doesn't care enough to buy credits.
Until you are at least willing to put in an effort, you are in no position to criticize.
BTW, when is Harper going to tell us how much his environmental plan will cost?

The whole carbon offset thing is crap. Just like Gore buying "carbon offsets" from a company that he owns, the whole thing is a shell game that hasno direct relation to the pollutiion. $1: Dion's buying offset credits too. He got the best plane he could under his circumstances. What sort of circumstances? Oh yeah.. their broke. All those challenger jets they bought and they don't get to use any. May and the greens are walking the walk by riding the train. If layton wasn't just another socialite socialist, he'd be waking the walk too.

ziggy ziggy: Buy credit's...there's a scam waiting to happen if it is'nt allready. No shit, you are literally giving away money in return for nothing. People who blow money on that kinda crap obviously have too much, they don't know what to do with it all...

Pakistan and China are laughing all the way to the bank, funded by all the guilt tax from Europe. It's really a pathetic joke and, in this one case, we should look and learn what not to do.

xerxes xerxes: Tracker Tracker: sandorski sandorski: ah, the dude has to go places. Kind of difficult to do so without spewing CO2. Yeah, so mabey he should STFU. So a person can only talk about protecting the environment if they live in a cave or live like the Amish? He sure can talk. But it's putting words to actions where he misses the mark.

Yes, ban fossil fuels from Lib's, Greens and NDP's. They'll be Pro-American in no time. As they mass exodus to areas where they can survive without the use of fossile fuels.
