He should be ashamed of himself because he belittled the sacrifice of those men and women who protect us. He would get the shit kicked out of him because soldiers don't put up with that crap from anyone. That has never been a US only trait. The justification for their deaths is they helped to put an end to tyrrany and oppression in Afghanistan imposed by the taliban. In effect to help fellow human beings to be free. Surely that is enough justification.
It would be enough justification, but I believe you're jumping the gun a little.
The Tyrrany and oppression still exists in many parts of Afghanistan.
They never asked for us to "Liberate" them, nor did they ever ask for our way of life to be forced on them.
Freedom comes in many forms and to think our way of freedom is better then someone else's who doesn't ask for our freedom is a bit arrogant on our part.
He should be ashamed to say that our troops are dying for nothing.
Our troops are doing exactly what they are ordered to do and they're doing it beyond what most other nations over there are doing. Because of this alone they deserve our respect and our honor.
I no longer agree with this war and I only supported it for a very short time in a similar manner as you currently do. I felt that we were unjust to be sending our troops over to help clean up the US's mess.... but what's done is done, and so we should look for justification for our actions.
In doing so, we found that helping these people who have nothing to obtain something greater and to give them a chance to choose their way of life was enough justification.
But our allies are continually undermining our efforts, killing the same civilians we're supposed to be helping, alienating them from us and why we are there.
It would seem that while each country is given a paticular territory to control, how each country controls those territories and the people in them is erratic with no solid method of unity in this process.
Because of this, those we're trying to protect and give freedom to, thus our justification, is being continually undermined by air strikes, night raids, and the sort that end up killing more civilians.
This is what makes the mission in my eyes' futile.
I give all the props I can to our troops and their efforts and they diserve our respect for their sacrafices, but for every step we take forward, most of our allies drag us back 5.
Eventually one has to look at the reality of the situation and look at what's best for our own troops. Should they be fighting tooth and nail for something that's continually ruined by the actions of our allies, thus making our objectives and justifications harder to reach...... or should we give our allies a kick in the ass, do what's right for our troops and show some tough love?
What our troops are going through in Afghanistan is like an abusive relationship. We take the brunt of the abuse, but are too afraid to leave the relationship because we feel our "Loved" one needs us and won't be able to cope without us.
If we haul out, that forces the rest of our allies to realize that Canada won't be there to clean up their messes anymore & to PR the Afghans constantly to tell them that we're the good guys, and will have to start doing things right.
Our troops have fought hard and done a lot over there, the Afghan army is taking control and have been trained well. We have extended our mission over there twice already.
Our pressence has been felt, our efforts have been shown..... it's time to bring our troops back home to rest with their friends and families in which they truly diserve. Our allies are not on par with our troop's understanding of duty and to protect those we're there to protect, and they're going to have to learn the hard way.
