Unfortunately for the dead man, he was not a cop himself. Otherwise, they could have subdued him using ONLY "rubber" bullets, just like the Police did to that Montreal cop who went on a bizarre rampage in a gym last week. He is now alive and well for the experience, although being examined in a psychiatriac institution. Regular people get Tazered or just simply shot to death for their trouble. Double standard? - you betcha!!

You know what gets me about all these "taser causes death" stories with everyone getting on their high horses about how stupid they are, and how they should be banned. The only time we hear about tasers being used is.....when they ARE lethal. My question is....how many times are tasers used without causing death.....we never hear those stories, because they aren't newsworthy. Believe me, I would rather be tasered than shot or clubbed.

Yogi Yogi: EyeBrock EyeBrock: $1: Yogi said: If in fact you are either an active or retired member of a recognized POLICE FORCE, licensed to carry a sidearm, and having done so for 17 years, then 'my hat is off to you' sir! That being the case then, I guess that my personal experiences as well as those told to me by a retired police officer as to what goes through an officers mind in split seconds when he was forced to use his weapon against some asshole, don't carry any weight here! I don't have a license, we don't need them to carry on duty and yes, What country are you a Police Officer in??? I don't take third party experiences as gospel, Sooo...if a woman who had experienced natural childbirth, while you watched, then 'told you' what it was like, you would not put much credence in her words? but I'm sure you mean well. Lastley; If you are not 'required to carry a sidearm' any experience that YOU HAVE in such matters is 'third party heresay' as well! Are you asking me what country I'm in? You are coming across as very confused Yogi. Police Officers in Canada do not need a firearms licence to carry a firearm. Your vast family of cops didn't tell you that?

At the prison where I'm working they dont get tazers. Just pepper spray and batons which is a good thing.

They should be banned, way too many people have died this year after being tazered which only proves it's not effective at subduing someone safely. That's the whole point of them. So what if some cop that thinks he's tough can take a few shots from a tazer, that doesnt prove that it wont afect others differently. Grande cache mixed,it's going from minimum to medium. All those 14 year old car thieves dont ya know?

The only point I'm trying to make is what percentage are lethal, as those are the only ones you hear about.....it's gotta be less than those being shot.

Grande cache mixed,it's going from minimum to medium. All those 14 year old car thieves dont ya know? I think we need to re-consider the whole taser issue as just too many people are dying. But cops need an effective less-than-lethal weapon otherwise shooting them is the only option. In this Province taser use is for active resistance but it's basically used for assaultive up to threatening serious bodily harm. Hyack has a point though, thousands of suspects have been tasered in Canada with no effects at all. Those that are dying are usually coked up and are experiencing ‘excited delirium’, something that can happen using pepper spray. There are dozens of deaths throughout North America attributed to drugged crazed suspects dying as a result of pepper spray and extreme physical exertion. What is the answer?

Your vast family of cops didn't tell you that? 'Confused'? Not in the least. You may very well have made a career in 'law enforcement', but you have certainly danced around my implied question. That being 'Are you a Police Officer on a recognized police force in Canada'? Let me spell it out for you. I mean 'Recognized police force' in the most accepted understanding of the term. This does not include 'armoured car guard, wildlife officer, bylaw enforcement, prison guard, mall cop, private security firm, etc. You have no more experience than I when it comes to being 'right in the middle of a shitstorm involving police and firearms. All of YOU KNOWLEDGE of such matters is 'THIRD PARTY'!
