New York City Police Detectives Robert Parker and Patrick Rafferty were shot and killed in East Flatbush on September 10th, allegedly after a suspect, Marlon Legere, 28, grabbed Parker’s gun and used it to shoot both detectives several times at close range.

It is a scenario that, while not commonplace, happens with enough frequency to alarm law enforcement professionals nationwide. Last year, 10 police officers were shot and killed in the United States after a suspect managed to get control of an officer’s weapon. Nearly one in five officers killed as part of a crime last year were shot with their own (or a partner’s) weapon, according to the National Center for Law Enforcement Technology - the highest number of such deaths in 18 years.

New York has been fortunate to have few of these incidents. Before this month’s shooting, the last incident of an officer being killed with his own weapon occurred in the city in 1998. Still, the recent deaths reinforce the danger of being a cop in New York and raise questions about how to best protect officers in the future.

If it can happen to trained police officers it can certainly happen to untrained civilians.

That’s exactly the road he's going down. He thinks if cops are getting their guns taken away by criminals it can happen to a regular citizen.

Every action like this is on the liberals hands, it could have been stopped.

The only thing that would have stopped this is a metal detector at a bus depot. Unfortunately, not all bus depots are in locations where metal detectors are possible to install. Essentially, nothing would have stopped this. Shit happens, move on.

I read a different article where they said the guy was on top of him and had stabbed him repeatedly within seconds,now if you think you could have pulled a gun and saved this kids life then I have a story for you.

I had a boss once who would bet you he could drink a glass of beer faster then you could pour yours on the floor and he never lost.
Because when he said go you would hesitate for a second wondering where to throw it.He would have the empty glass on the table by then.

Most of the passengers were asleep when this happened and the guy who did witness the stabbing said the guy was probably dead by the time he saw him. All he could do is run to the front of the bus to get the bus to stop and get people off the bus before he killed anyone else.
