So... between appeasing the natives and protecting the public, appeasing the natives wins every time. ![huh? [huh]](./images/smilies/icon_scratch.gif)

It's proof how racist our justice system has become when we lower expectations for those of a certain phenotype.

this will inspire vigilantees, because if the courts won't sentence criminals, well someone has to protect society from the scum. This POS shattered a bus drivers face because he was asked to use the proper doors to board the bus. What's he going to do the next time he's annoyed, kill someone? Now you'll have the native gangs and wannabes committing all sorts of violence and mayhem because the courts have given them carte blanche based on their ethnicity. This goes beyond disgusting the courts have become enablers and accomplices.

[huh]](./images/smilies/icon_scratch.gif) Actually even white boys get handed slack sentences for crimes like this. We don't take male on male assault very seriously unless one of them is killed. So the native bit is just icing on the cake.

Careful people. We don't want to be branded as racists because we see what utter bullshit this is. This crap sets a bad precedent and will only go towards further degradation of native vs non-native relations.
I could imagine the outrage if the driver was native and the aggressor was non-native. There would be natives screaming for public inquiries and eventually more money for some program.
Time for the law abiding citizens of this country to say enough pandering to the 'poor' native who had a rough life and is given special treatment.

$1: Court was told that Mr. Louie experienced a difficult upbringing, raised by an alcoholic mother, and suffers from fetal alcohol syndrome. That's likely a big reason right there. Speaking from experience, those with FASD often have violent outbursts due to their inability to cope with society. FASD is a motherfucker and a burden placed on a child by its immature (and usually addicted) mother. It isn't a jusitification for the assailant getting off, but it is understandable. However, having said that, it should be noted that this isn't his first offence and he should have been punished severely for it - perhaps with a long stint at a mental hospital where his FASD cna be dealt with appropriately.

Andy di you even read the article? The judge herself said "Mr. Louie’s aboriginal ancestry as one of several mitigating factors" I agree FASD sucks, and I agree that we see slack sentences to all walks of life, but to use the guys race in her judgment just invites criticism and IMO trouble down the road as mention above by Shep

Yes. The FAS isn't his fault. But, we can't just shrug our shoulders and let these people off to do it again, because they certainly don't just change their behavior. He needs to be in a supervised living situation. Probably for ever. But that costs money, so we just let them out and let some other poor sucker take the consequences for it. Ain't alcohol grand. Taking his race into account is just bullshit.

Not just on this forum - this happened where I live, so I'm well aware of the case. My point is that we don't hand out long enough sentences to white dickheads either - they get a few months usually. So this guy's race just made his sentence a little more slack than is usually the case - and he probably got a longer probation period than than the white guy would have got.

We've had lots of driver attacks here - nobody got a really stiff sentence.
