The DNA test wouldn't show if it was her or her sister, only that she was kin to her Canadian relatives. I'm pretty sure there's much were not being told but I can't see how we can deny her services.

You know what, just shut up. What kind of xenophobic redneck bullshit is that? You're not allowed to "wear shit on your head" when you come into the country now? The woman produced over a dozen pieces of Canadian-issued ID and documentation. She was denied because an official thought that in ONE of the photos her "MOUTH looked different." No other reason. Yes her tax dollars help you out of your shitty jams and vice-versa. Getting stuck in a foreign country and thrown in one of their jails for over a week is quite a shitty jam indeed. Welcome to democracy.

I'm pretty sure the problem is this conservative government is ideologically driven to believe that all foreigner-born people who wear "shit on their head" and have funny-sounding names and look different are evil-doing criminal terrorists out destroy and undermine our benevolent christian western nation. Not only do I think they have set up unofficial quotas to turn away the imaginary "vast hordes" of evil-doing foreigners, it's obvious that any time a person gets caught in the system, they think they've caught one of those "evil doers" and do everything in their power to ignore their request for help or even try to fuck them over more. When someone has that much ID it should be alot harder to deny someone entry than for one person to say "your mouth looks different" in one phote and it sure as hell should not take 3 months and over a week in a foreign prison to prove their identity.

As for "mc guinty shouldnt speak up" Of course he should, he's her premier and this case is outrageous. Way to deflect attention from your party's misdeeds and shift it to something and someone completely different. You do realize that if every politician refrained from speaking on any issue because they have difficulties in some other completely unrelated issue, we'd never see or hear from any of them again. Here I go and agree that she should be returned to the country, even though the DNA hasn't proved who she is, and you just flip this into a wholesale attack on all Conservative governments.
Do you honestly believe that Harper reviews all the Canadian passports to decide who he wants to screw with? If I remember this correctly, it was the Kenian officials who started this ball rolling anyways.

Ms. Mohamud was initially stopped by Kenyan officials because her photos did not match. When Ms. Mohamud originally arrive at the airport a photo was taken of her by Kenyan immigration officials and when she arrived at the airport to depart the person who presented Ms. Mohamud passport did not match either the passport photo or the airports entry photo. That’s when CBSA was contacted to investigate. Foreign Affairs and CSBA have conducted four separate investigations and she has failed each one including the visual photo matching tests, extensive interviews, etc. Fingerprints were requested by Foreign Affairs in the hopes that they might match sets in Canada but to date there are no prints on record with CIC or any other agency or police department. Consular services are not being provided to the woman who presented herself as Ms. Mohamud because she is not a Canadian citizen.

I was also informed by DFAIT that CBSA deals with on average 5 cases of passport fraud a week in Nairobi and they have a well developed manner of investigating these types of cases. I have put in a similar request for information from CBSA to make sure their story matches the one I received from DFAIT.

If this woman is a Canadian, her citizenship will be proved and she'll be allowed to return to Canada and sue the Government like every other person who gets themselves detained in a foreign country does. If it's proved she's not Canadian then life goes on and we wait for the next detainee who claims to be a Canadian citizen to rear their ugly head.

Since McGuinty would never grandstand and seems to be far more knowledgable than Immigration Canada in these matters. You just have to believe that this woman is truly Canadian despite every shred of evidence that points otherwise.

So, I guess since the great leader from the center of the universe has spoken, the Fed's should get off their asses and bring her back whether she can prove she's a Canadian or not.

As far as I'm concerned and despite what the mouth that roared says, she can stay in Kenya till hell freezes over or she can prove unequivocally that she's a Canadian citizen.

I don't understand why a Thumb/Finger Print isn't part of the process to get a Passport. Much more reliable than Appearance.

I agree but I think the thumb print has an assumption of guilt and I also wonder if finger prints are distinguishing enough that they can be usefull with untrained border guards.
Reguardless of what we could do, we didn't do it then and still don't do it.

If I want to go to the US and get a visa waiver, I get fingerprinted and mug shot because I am not Canadian. What is the big deal?

The problem wasn't that she had to take them off for the passport photo. Heck, they were happy to take of photo of her in her headscarf. If they want to change policy and make a bare head a photo requirement, I say fine. but don't say its ok and then burn them for it once they're overseas.

No I don't think Harper personally handled this woman's portfolio but its obvious that when they came to power and the new ministers gave their directives to their agencies, the tone was set. There may be a quota or review system in place that incents or encourages agents to produce x number of denials a week or simply the tone of official communications through the agency may make it clear to staff things are going to be done differently and more skepticism needs to be in place.

Now that DNA has confirmed that it IS actually her, and that her documents ARE actually real, we have to ask whether looking at photos is really the best way to judge identity.
