Brenda Brenda:
Balance. What do people in assault cases get?
Depends on a lot of factors. Likely less than 4 years.
$1:

The fact the judge ordered 54 years MORE than prosecutors asked for, shows me that there is a lot of emotion involved from the part of the judge.
That's quite the judgement on the judge.

I realize that and I am ok with that.

Had this been done in Canada the woman would have gotten a "slap on the wrist" and walked, I don't doubt that for a second.

Hell as a mother in Canada you can murder your child and get little or no jail time. That, IMO, is a travesty.

Is the sentence harsh? Yes, it is.

Do I have any sympathy for her? Absolutely none.

My God, I can't believe a mother could do something like this, the woman is definitely sick....

Unfortunately I can. Nothing really surprises me anymore. :?

Yes, sadly.

Yet in light of this people will say it is wrong to implant people like this with a patch that will temporarily sterilize them and save possible future kids of hers (and those like hers) from this abuse. I'm not saying permanent sterilization but one can have some sort of implant (forget its name) to assure a woman like this can't have kids for a time. Maybe re-visit her in a few years to see that she can care for the kids she has. If so, take it out.

But no, these mothers who have a history of abuse and neglect are allowed to have the chance to do it again and again with more kids and more cost to the social services, medical and justice system.

This woman tortured her child. That's sickening, and yes, it fits the definition of "evil" for me. Whether she got 50 years or 99 years matters not to me. What matters is that she's removed from society.

Permanent sterilization of women (and men) who are convicted of such heinous crimes would meet my approval as well.

23 years old, child torturer, and five kids already.

There's merit in that discussion.

I support strict enforcement of a zero tolerance rule for any type of violent crimes against children. Therefore I agree with the sentence.

Hope the little girl makes a full recovery.

Amen to that. Sometimes it's a shame that children aren't able to hang on to early childhood memories. In cases like this it's an absolute blessing.
