I hate giving Jason Kenney credit for literally anything but on one thing he was absolutely right. The crazies are waiting in the wings and are ready to take over. And if he couldn't contain them then no one else in the province can either. Wonder if Alberta's Status of Women minister being a male Baptist preacher, appointed to the position by a Roman Catholic incel, might have something to do with how tone-deaf this thing got. Either way seeing the Alberta government still reliably operates by the sort of philosophy found at place like 4Chan or Roosh V's old website is somewhat reassuring. It shows that the UCP is committed to maintaining it's near-perfect daily balance of both tragedy & hilarity. Even the best comedic writers of the modern age could not script anything this flawlessly perverse.

It tells me that either the Judge didn't read the essays before deciding the winner; or that they did read them and chose that one anyhow. They only realized their mistake when reporters started calling asking why their racism was showing. Again.

Kind of a dopey wide-eyed innocence among Alberta's Hee Haw demographic in that so many of them are empty vessels totally unaware that they've being filled up with pure poison by religious cranks and by the "In The Camp Of The Saints" mongers. I don't mean innocence as being good either, but just someone who can be exploited by the pros to drag what might be a completely harmless person in a very dangerous direction. Just repeat endlessly total garbage to someone and it doesn't take much at all to warp them into something they might not have been. Like QAnon or Holocaust deniers. Unfortunately for the person who'd write that kind of essay they can't be "taken offline" and sent back to the lab for deletion of the corrupting material & re-programming. This sort of stuff, that was used by the likes of the Alberta Report crowd in this province for decades and went entirely unopposed while it was being proselytized, is so deeply embedded into the social soil here that it will never be gotten rid of.

There's a message in that too, that a staunch lifelong conservative (like him or loathe him) knows that the time to get out for good is fast approaching given who's about to take the entire place over in a couple of months. He only came here from Ontario because he saw the opening to be Premier. Now that he's scorched earth, he has no reason to put up with the riff-raff that used to vote for him. Why stay?
