We underfunded our equipment improvements; the military technology changed much faster than we had anticipated and we failed to keep up. But our objective was not war, but to prevent war by separating the warring groups. With Prime Minister Lester Pearson we put the idea before the United Nations and the world accepted it. Pearson was later awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. This is what Canada stood for, this is the Canadian Forces tradition. For Harper to take us along with the USA (the most murderous military in the entire history of the world!) is to create enemies instead of friends of our country. We ought to expand our Forces, but do it to rebuild our traditional image.

You do realize who put us in Afghanistan in the first place right? I'm guessing you don't remember it was Chretien. As for peacekeeping, that's all well and good if that's what needs to be done, but the Canadian forces are soldiers trained to protect Canada and it's interests. We have an even more important heritage of fighting along side the world in two world wars and in Korea. The Canadian forces aren't around just to be peacekeepers and make everyone feel all warm and cuddly.

Has anyone ever followed a budget for a war? I don't think so. For a small scale war this is going to cost us alot. Theres no surprise there unless you were sleeping.
