Just fucking great. :| It's frozen vegetables. How tough is this? All the recalls in the last weeks for e-coli, Listeria and hepatitis-A are just a symptom of how shitty our food supply is managed.

Yeah, but it's cheap. Or at least cheaper than it would be if it was properly inspected.

$1:
In this outbreak, of those eight who were sick, six were in California. The two people who died were from Maryland and Washington.

I wonder if they thought the extra few cents they saved was worth it. :(

Heres a list of all the recalled products. They are some of the more expensive brands, found in the organics section. The only ones I have bought are Kirkland signature and McCains. I usually avoid pricey organic brands. For the money they charge for some of it, you'd think they would have a sterile operation.

Yea, you'd think they would have less chance at being contaminated in the field. I usually go for the pricey organic brands, because I like my veg raw or just slightly cooked. :(

And if I had veg in my freezer from 2014, I should have got rid of it already.

Its everything since May 2014, so even the new stuff. Its an incredibly massive recall so its worth checking your freezer.

$1:
On May 2, CRF expanded it to include all of its frozen organic and traditional fruit and vegetable products manufactured or processed at its Washington plant since May 1, 2014.

I wonder if that means they they haven't washed the machines in their plant since then? The way to avoid most of these contaminations is simple soap and water. That, and giving your migrant workers toilets so they don't have to shit in the fields.

As long as you cook everything you'll be fine.

What's happening is people are using the frozen fruit to make smoothies and getting sick off of them.

No one's getting sick from a baked pie.

Which is what I eat for breakfast most mornings. Two scoops of whey protein, and a cup of frozen fruit in the blender. One brand of frozen berries I have in my freezer is similar to one recalled in Eastern Canada earlier this month for Hep-A infection. Luckily, it wasn't recalled because by the time it was, I had already eaten half of it.

Why the fuck can't we trust our food supply?

Most bacteria wont survive temperatures above 140F. The government recomends all meats be cooked to an internal temperature of 165F or 74C.

That's wonderful.

How does it change anything about the veggie sub I just went to Subway for and just ate?

Our food supply is broken if fresh fruit and veggies are contaminated with bacteria and viruses that originate in meat and feces.

It's called unregulated capitalism. Walmart food. What's a few deaths to get cheap food, especially when the job givers just can't afford to pay their employees more and who wants to pay more taxes for proper inspections?

I love Subway but I quickly noticed far less digestion problems with less veggies, especially lettuce. Now I avoid those fixings like the plague.
