Not enough.
It should have been first degree.
It's hardly likely these 6 murders were not pre-meditated, planned and on purpose.

Exactly, how do you kill six people (and who knows how many others) and there NOT be some kind of pre-meditation........

Shit.

I can't imagine what the families felt when the jury found him "not guilty" on 1st degree murder :?

Whether he was found guilty on 1st or 2nd degree is irrelevant since Canada does not have the death penalty. Remember, he still faces 20 counts of 1st degree murder, so no matter how you look at it he will never again be a free man.

Given the state of our judiciary, the thing that scares me most is that with a second degree murder conviction it's feasible that he could might get anywhere from 10 to 25 years.

Rationally, you are right Hyack, but for the victims and their families, this just sucks.

As Wally Oppal said, it is difficult for the Crown to prove first-degree murder. The elements of planning and deliberation are the key elements."We think the jury delivered the proper verdict," he said. Even if he is given the minimum of 10 years on each count, served consecutively.....he's gone for 60 years....if he lives that long.

Honestly lily I think the point is moot, Picton is 58, there is no way he is getting the minimum sentence, if he did they could bring up the other 20 counts, which if found guilty on, even 2nd degree, would be a minimum of 25 years.....there is no way he will ever walk the streets again.
