Actually it is considered traditional to remove one's hat as a sign of respect, and placing it over your heart, a tradition that did not come from the States.

On another note, when I submitted this article roughly one day ago, I did not realize the shear volume of response or reaction it would create. While I am a mostly liberal person, I am a supporter of the armed forces, and always pay respect to our men in uniform. As such, although I may have objections to war, methods used, civilian casualties, etc., my primary reason for submitting this article was about the way our honored dead is treated in comparison to other countries (not just Briton, as the article also mentions U.S. treatment of war dead). This can be seen as a source of pride for our country that we do not allow our ideologically differences with war or difficulties in resource management (roads congestion, police shortages) prevent us from treating our fallen soldiers with respect and dignity.

Because of this, I must protest your initial comments on this matter Streaker.

Also, I apologize for the length of this comment, but I felt these thoughts regarding this matter should be shared.
