So no trials, just indefinite detention. And you seem to be shrinking the circle - at first it was all leftists in Quebec. What group are you talking about now, and what have they done? I think you're just venting here. I hope.

Thanos Thanos:
andyt andyt:
You want to send the anarchists to Gitmo? That is what I called you on - you still stand behind that, rather than putting words in my mouth?

You're right, I'd Gitmo every single one of those anarchist fucks. I'd Supermax those fuckers in Chicago who were going to attack the cops and the President for the rest of their worthless lives. And for the bratty scum Quebec students who triggered this shit in the first place I'd kick every single one of them out of the schools they're in and then disqualify them from receiving any sort of public assistance, starting with access to student loans, for the rest of their useless lives too.

Care to see how much farther I'd be willing to go after that? The only time Pierre Trudeau was right about anything is when he stomped down hard on the exact same type of terrorist/anarchist assholes during the FLQ crisis. That's how you deal with criminals. That's how you deal with anarchists. And that's how you deal with terrorists.

No mercy for these scum. Ever. And too fucking bad for clowns like you if you don't like it.

I think Ghadaffi said something similar not too long ago.

Well, give Thanos credit, he's backed off a long way from Gitmoing every Quebec leftist. I'm not sure what Anarchist fuckers he'd Gitmo now, or what they're supposed to have done. I'm not quite sure whey me mentions the students in Quebec in the same breath as terrorists. but yep, he's sounding pretty "King of Kings of Africa" here.

In the immortal words of Douglas Adams, "Don't Panic." Rioting has not become "routine" in Canada. This is just your typical media hyperbole written to strike fear into the hearts of the National Post hand-wringing blue-hair crowd. "Society is coming apart at the seams! Our young have turned against us! Pack up what freedoms you have left and deliver them to your nearest police station so they can save us."

The reality is somehwat more prosaic so take a Prozac. We've got, demographically, a lot of young people right now. Just like we had in the 60s. Which was the last time we had this culture of protest. It was atcually more severe back then:

Tin soldiers and Nixon's coming
We're finally on our own
This summer I heard the drumming
Four dead in Ohio.

And Truedeau did declare martial law, and it was spooky walking down the street knowing you could be picked up at any time, and if a guy like Thanos was in in charge you just might be. We're no where near that point.

As the OP says, the police need to act on better intelligence. How was it that everybody knew that a riot was likely in Vancouver except the police. Why weren't they prepared to move in quickly at the first sign of trouble and arrest the instigators, so the followers didn't get out of control?

Which is cute and all until someone tries to blow up a subway platform or gives a cop third-degree burns all over his body with a well-placed molotov cocktail.

Hockey riots = bad, embarassed our city and team, hang 'em all high.

Political riots = just the young 'uns being rambuncious, nothin' to git all tangled up about, all Harper-Hitler's fault anyway. Nothin' to see here, keep movin' on folks, hyuk-hyuk-hyuk.

Whatever.

Anyone else find it ironic the Americans can keep things under control at the NATO conference in Chicago over something substantial like a WAR but La Belle Province has gone to hell in a handbasket over minor tuition hikes on what's already the lowest tuition in North America?

Many people believe that anyone who is protesting Is automatically inciting a riot....Simply because they are Disagreeing With the political policies And the authorities.

It has been proven that police forces Have put instigators into protests In order to incite riots.

Perhaps so they can get their jollies busting heads.

Prove it. Show me the proof that the biggest public-order incident in the past 10 years (the G20) put instigators in there to incite riots.

It happened a few years ago during the summit in Montebello Quebec

Those were plain clothes cops infiltrating the crowd, not inciting. They weren't very good either.

Ya right. With rocks in their hands that they refused to drop? And "infiltrating" a group of of peacful union members legally assembed, with no "black bloc" members, mask wearers or other rowdies in sight? How is that infiltrating? As soon as they showed up intheir masks, the union members demanded they leave. Not exactly blending in. Thats like trying to infiltrate a rap concert in KKK costumes.

The undercovers were there to give the police a reason to move in and clear that areaof legal peaceful protesters since the protesters weren't giving them sufficient cause. Why else was the riot squad magically right there and ready to move?

This was investigated in 2007. There weren't inciting anybody. They were just shit at infiltrating.

Correct me if im wrong, but didnt the police investigate themselves? I dont think they were trying to incite violence, they just wanted an excuse to disperse those old fogies, I doubt they were xpecting resistance.
