It's not a very old bridge that they're replacing and it is a monument to corrupt and incompetent construction and engineering in Quebec. The Champlain bridge, that is being replaced, was a toll bridge thrououut my memory as a child and young adult ... twenty years, anyway and the replacement bridge could/should also have a toll.

Those Vancouverites, who wrote the article, have every reason to be pissed.

The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited owns a few bridges in Quebec and Ontario.

All of their Ontario bridges seem to have tolls, while all of their bridges in Quebec are toll free.

I don't believe in toll bridges or roads, but this clearly seems like a cost Quebec or Montreal should pay in full on their own.

Mulcair really isn't interested in having the NDP be elected outside Quebec, is he?

THe bridges that span the St.Lawrence Seaway are owned 50/50 between feds and provincial gov'ts. So Ottawa will pay for a portion of the repairs, however I think Quebec and Mulcair can get stuffed if they think they should get a free bridge without tolls.

$1:
“The Champlain Bridge is the most important bridge in Canada,” federal NDP leader Thomas Mulcair declared recently.

No it isn't. The bridge from Detroit to Windsor is the most important bridge in Canada because more money, drugs, guns, and criminals come across that bridge than the one in Montreal.

May have been the most important bridge into Montreal at one time, but I think more traffic now goes through the "Pont-Tunnel Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine", which is part of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Trudope will take the same stance as angry Tom. He doesn't give a shit about anybody in the west.

I remember when the Rhino party said they'd drill holes in the ceiling to turn it into a free, public car wash.

Anyway, I would say the most important one in Canada is the Angus L. MacDonald bridge in Halifax because it gets you out of Dartmouth [shudder!]
