Sorry I looked and didn't see a post saying Sony had pulled the movie "the interview" So I put it up. Maybe the mod's could merge it with the other thread on the topic thanks.

Instead, they should have released it free, to every tv station in the world. It would have been a real "in your face, Nork".

Exactly, by Sony caving in we are telling the world exactly the opposite. Instead of "in for face" it is "up our ass".

Everybody says Sony shouldn't cave. Are they prepared to pay for the lawsuits if something did happen? All of a sudden the conversation would be around how reckless Sony was, tempting people to come to an event known to be a target of terrorists.

This has liability and lawyer written all over it. If they went ahead with it and someone got a hang nail then the class actions etc. would be booming.
Or they're just cowards...........

Just cowards. No one pulled Batman when that asshole shot up the theatre in Colorado. Sony shit themselves over a threat that wasn't ever going to materialize. The defense and intelligence guys that watch the Norks are saying it's one of the most ridiculous cave-ins to the little shits in Pyongyang they've ever seen.

Did the munchkins threaten to blow up Sony's corporate headquaters in Japan?

Word is that the honchos in Japan were quite worried and that the order to kill the film came from HQ in Tokyo. Understandable, one supposes, given their proximity to the little shits. Still horrible in the precedent they've set off though. The amount of projects that might get killed off in order not to offend anyone, ranging from the wussiest of PC liberals to potential terrorists, is quite staggering. This could have as big a chilling effect on film and TV creativity over time as the HUAC anti-communist hysteria did back in the 1950's.

Maybe Sony caved, but so what? Sony owes us nothing. This isn't a violation of anyone's rights.

The post-WW2 castration of Japan and Germany certainly has it's drawbacks. The old evils have long since been burnt out of them (literally) but they're now so gun-shy about even appearing to throw their weight around they simply won't do it at all, not even in situations where their co-operation/support/leadership is desperately needed.

It's a straight business decision. They're not in it to confront terrorism. Probably gets them more publicity (I even wondered if this was all a stunt) for a movie that apparently is a pos.

It is likely a business decision (insulation from potential lawsuits and such). It's still unfortunate to say the least.
