Zipperfish Zipperfish: Thanos Thanos: That old guy calling the reporters 'lying pieces of shit' made the most accurate and truthful comment I've ever heard in my life during an election campaign. It bothered the reporters because it was true. Practically all of the Canadian media are lying pieces of shit. Every single reporter in this country should be forced to wear a badge that just doesn't have their press credentials on it. It should also have a logo on it that shows which political party they belong to or personally favour on it. Show who they give their allegiance too will explain not just the questions they ask but also why they ask questions the way they do and would forever rid us of this myth of press objectivity that everyone knows is a lie anyway. Agreed. Except for the CBC, the press are all biased to the Conservatives. The conservative ones all work for private companies, like Postmedia or the handful of centrists at MacLeans or the G&M. Most of the left-wing ones all work at a taxpayer-funded agency. Same now as it's always been, except just more blatant. Why, for example, shouldn't Linda McQuaig been vigourously questioned after her oilsands comments, on what level of unemployment in Alberta she finds tolerable in return for a reduction on carbon emissions? I'd say that it's because the national media, especially the CBC, is so deep in the bag for the NDP that they have a general hands-off rule. Whenever a Dipper says something controversial they aren't pressed on it, at least not in the same manner that would happen when a Conservative has a foot-in-mouth moment. Hence the valid belief that most of the media aren't just lying pieces of shit, but that most of them are basically agents for the political parties, and that the more left the political party they more of a hands-off soft ride they'll get from the media.

I had this talk with a Provincial Liberal Cabinet minister whose mom was in same hospital room as mine.
He just accepted that some are pro one party and the others are pro other party.
The guy was a douche actually and I wonder why i supported his party.
He pointed to my wife , older than him, and said "I want that chair!" she was sitting in. Wrong person to do this to...lol..
She looked at him and glared and looked at me . I said there is one over there and he said it was too big he wanted that one.
A nurse overheard....ran and got one the same as my wife was in .... Washed it in clorox napkins...then water then water again and dried it and carried to his mom's bedside.
I was flabergasted for these nurses did fuck all like this for anyone!!!.....So out in the hall I whispered to her"why did you do that:..she looked around and whispered back..His a Provincial minister....
blehhhhh....and i vote for these people!!!! i am an idiot so public and cdnpathetic guy slam away!!!!

Macleans endorsement in 2006--Harper. In 2011--Harper. Globe and Mail, 2006 and 2011--Harper. National Post, 2006 and 2011--Harper. Vancouver Sun and Vancouver Province, 2006 and 2011--Harper. So much for the left-wing MSM.

Ditto too with their lesser cousin at CTV, as well as the bigger papers in the Toronto area like The Star.

I could only see an idea like this working if we regress and remove 'private' voting; then having authority figures/media/employers/everyone wear the party flag of the last election they voted it. It'd be a fun idea, until everything goes completely batshit wrong I suppose The media fills an important role. The public has the right to know if they're doing their job objectively, as the media claims, or if they're operating as agents for the parties. This would be doubly important for CBC reporters because as a national taxpayer-funded media operation that allegedly operates on the behalf of the entire country we all should have a right to know what connections to the parties the reporters have and if they're reporting in a way to benefit one party over the others.

So much for the left-wing MSM. You forget who was running for the Liberals in 2006 and 11. Easy to not support those.

Thanos Thanos: The media fills an important role. The public has the right to know if they're doing their job objectively, as the media claims, I haven't seen that for 20 years. To be fair, it's much worse in Europe, most media here is even more polarized. But no one buys the 'our media is impartial' BS, everyone knows who supports who; the chasms are much wider.

I don't care what the privately-owned media does. FOX has their bias. So does the SUN and the rest of the Postmedia empire. It doesn't bother me because it doesn't cost me any money in taxes. But the CBC does cost me money in taxes which means that far more than any of the others they have the absolute obligation and responsibility not to be blatantly in the tank for one party over the others. IMO they've failed at this since the late 1960's because they were the first ones to be swept up by Trudeaumania and were openly pro-Liberal since then. Now with the Liberals in the doldrums they've split their favouritism to include the NDP.
Private media, I don't care. Public media though? You're damn right I have the right to know if these people are members of the parties and if they're asking questions the way a reporter should, to gather accurate information for the public to judge on their own, or if they're deliberately going soft on the parties they belong to and hammering the ones they're against. The Karl-Heinz Schreiber affair was the most blatant example of the CBC doing the work for the Liberals and NDP. They went after Mulroney like attack dogs, even though Mulroney had been out of office for over fifteen years at the time, all on the lies supplied by a crooked German businessman who ended up doing prison time back in Germany.

The media fill an important role? I don't think they do. Their most important job is the conveyance of advertisements. To do this they will printt or broadcast anything they think people will read. And the news is just another show. $1: We got the bubble-headed bleach blonde comes on at five She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye It's int'resting when people die Give us dirty laundry
You don't really need to find out what's going on You don't really want to know just how far it's gone Just leave well enough alone Eat your dirty laundry
We can do the innuendo, we can dance and sing When it's said and done we haven't told you a thing We all know that crap is king Give us dirty laundry
