The subpoenas are to determine what the Pastors were telling their congregations regarding the Petition and how the congregants were to gather signatures and the like. It has nothing to do with what the sermons were saying about Homosexuals.

From TIME Magazine:

$1:
One subpoena sent to Pastor Steve Riggle, for example, asks for “all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to [the equal rights ordinance], the petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity.”

So, yes, it has everything to do with what the sermons were saying about homosexuals.
