I think that in society, most people are in the middle, neither far left nor far right... and that's a good thing. You get that perfect Bell curve with very few extremists on either side.
Slanted news does nothing but pull people from the middle towards the extremes. Then you get more and more conflict between the 2 with fewer level heads in the middle trying to calm them down.
Some societies have been doing this for years, but usually by slanting the news all to one side.

Unfortunately, we have the CBC who are notoriously left-leaning and CTV, while being more right of centre last election have moved over to the left of centre this election. Global has stayed relatively neutral. I think that SUN will be similar to that of the CBC but on the other side of the fence and I don't see the harm in that. Perhaps it will level the bar in terms of partisanship on our televisions.

So instead of forcing our news providers to be balanced by, oh, not tuning in, we're going to encourage more biased news? Not to mention import it from another country? Briliant.

Come on, QBC, we're lazy.
Why should we try to have opinions, and God forbid, make up our own minds where we can find people to do that for us. Besides, as human beings, we like to be a part of a group, with other people who were brainwashed think like us.
Since there are no level headed or moderate or on the fence or mixed groups who all like to have intellegent discussions with, "oh no!!!", people who don't neccessary have the same opinion, we tend to congregrate with other similar crazies.

Forcing a private company to do what you want often does little to nothing. For everyone that tunes out CTV, for example, someone else is switching over. Want to attempt to make a difference, write them and express your opinions.

Arctic_Menace Arctic_Menace: RUEZ RUEZ: Arctic_Menace Arctic_Menace: Sunny day? More like a dark day in Canadian History. On Monday, we will start to descend to the pitiful level that has been observed in the States. I weep for our country. Holy drama queen. Forgive if I voice my discomfort with how this came about (pretty much forced down the CRTC's throat) and voice my concern for how this will help destroy credible journalism in Canada. It's been styling itself as Fox News North, and Fox News is a major contributor to the current state of affairs in the States which is less than admirable. Actually the Canadian media is calling it Fox News North. And they were not forced down the CRTC's throat. They are as legit a channel as anything else on Canadian TV, regardless of who agrees with their opinion. The CRTC even denied them a license that would make them a mandatory carried channel.

I don't plan to watch it. (But then I watch very little TV anyway.) But if people are stupid enough to tune in and be swayed by it, I guess we deserve going down the same road the US is - guess we're not so much smarter than we think. And, if Ezra Levant does some bits on the Human Rights Commissions, that would actually be worth watching. But it would take too much effort, and I can always read about it in McCleans - that well known leftist rag.

Time will tell. It's a little early to declare Sun TV as "legit" or not. If this network turns out to be conservative-leaning in its editorial while objective in its broadcast of news then it will be a nice addition to the airwaves. If it turns out to be a 24-7 source of yellow journalism and outright fiction, like Fox News USA, then it won't be legit.

Balanced by not tuning in ? CBC doesnt seem to care if they make money or not And gents, this is a worldwide thing, not just the States. Media in Europe has been fucked up like this a lot longer.

Frankly, there just isn't enough news to support all the news channels these days. That's why I think the news channels have all moved to the opinion format. CNN has tried to stay the "journalism" course, and that's why they are losing audience share to FOX and MSNBC.
It gets boring watching the same old stories being rehashed with a false sense of urgency (Breaking News: Justin Bieber Mobbed in Israel!!!!!). So people go the entertainment route watching the polemic equivalent of WWF.
Besides, most people don't want to think; they want to be told what to think.
