Scape Scape:

O'Toole: "People commuting aren't the problem with climate change"

Gov of Canada stats: In 2018, the transportation sector was the second largest source of GHG emissions, accounting for 25% (185 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent) of total national emissions.

Obviously commuters are not all of that CO2, but we're a significant portion of it, and if people don't pay for the pollution they create, there is little incentive to reduce it.

He could not commit to enforcing the floor. He immediately turned to rhetoric of why a senior citizen should be paying when the big polluters are not. Whataboutism is NOT policy it's bullshit and everyone see that.

How are we to get meaningful industry reform if we can't commit to basic norms? ALL of us are going to need to make changes to face this challenge but we need a PM that actually enforces the laws or it is meaningless legislation.

And of the dogpile that ran who should? I'm not seeing ANY strong contenders.

I was rooting for Dr. Leslyn Lewis. I like her a lot.

She had potential but she didn't get a huge boost from the rank and file. That made her look more like a token and she ended up being a bit of a kingmaker in the leadership run. Her stance on abortion is consistent with the base but the base in not the general public and that would kill the CPC. O'Toole was one of the few that had a shot at the leadership that had some stand on that issue that would not have instantly castigated the CPC in a general election. That's why he won and that he aggressively countered Peter MacKay's underground campaign and too this day is rooting it out. (example kicking out Sloan and demoting Poilievre). That war has casualties and his vote on climate change is a result. I think his leadership is mortality wounded but the CPC is also. It may be decades before the CPC can mount a serious challenge for the PM seat.

Just... because... :P

$1:
The Supreme Court of Canada held that Justin Trudeau’s imposition of the carbon tax was constitutional as a result of the little known ‘if we don’t do something we’re gonna be real fucking dead real fucking soon’ legal principle.
...
Reached for comment Premiers Scott Moe, Jason Kenney and Doug Ford said they strongly disagreed with the court’s decision and vowed to immediately appeal to whatever court is higher than the Supreme Court.
