Not surprising. As they state in their letter, there is no policy for the balancing between energy policy and environmental concerns. The project would have struggled with its pledge to remain carbon neutral. That, and the mine was only considered profitable with oil over $65 a barell.

I'm not that surprised either. I suspect that profitability was the bigger issue because Teck is a corporation and their responsibility is to the shareholders if they are a publicly-traded company. The timing leads me to believe that the blockades in Ontario and Quebec played a bigger role than they would care to admit. Why would anyone want to invest in this country if we cannot even guarantee the movement of goods? Frankly, I would encourage investors to completely divest in Canada, it's simply not worth the risk.

Good for Russia. Maybe they can get some licenses to export to Canada. They could even get some exclusive-rights piers and terminals built in the Lower Mainland and along the St. Lawrence Seaway and in New Brunswick. Maybe it could also be somehow arranged for SNC Lavalin to get an exclusive 100% taxpayer-funded deal for all the engineering, procurement, and construction. Win-win all around for Canadians! Well, for some Canadians anyway.

$1:
Canada is presently in the throes of social and political disintegration. A left-leaning electorate has once again empowered a socialist government promoting all the lunatic ideological shibboleths of the day: global warming or “climate change,” radical feminism, indigenous sovereignty, expansionary government, environmental strangulation of energy production, and the presumed efficiency of totalitarian legislation. Industry and manufacturing are abandoning the country in droves and heading south.

That's hilarious! A company decides a project isn't financially viable, and it's really the "Radical Feminists" who are to blame.

Not financially viable, after spending a billion on engineering and planning, all due to an economic catastrophe deliberately created in the last five years by a hard-left Canadian federal government.

No one pulls a project after spending that much money on development unless they're suddenly aware the fix is in on it. Teck's sole positive out of this is being able to use the loss as a tax write off.

The best part about a conspiracy is the lack of need for evidence.

The only fact we have is Teck decided to pull the plug themselves. Whether the rug was going to be pulled on them or not, their letter detailing the reasons seem pretty sound. And if Trudeau was pulling the plug, they could have said it in the letter.

And Teck is far from the first company to pull out of the oilsands. It's just the latest.

Umm, Trans Mountain did. Were you hoping Trudeau will buy the project to save it or something?
Teck's had trouble raising the $$ for it, but went full steam with the propaganda the whole time.
