Whenever women try to harm their children they are usually described as "depressed" or as having "mental problems" and in need of "help". Whenever men do it they are simply called monsters and locked up.

Poisoning a baby is merely a retroactive abortion. Why be bothered about it at all?
In the Netherlands the progressive leaders of that country allow parents to off their children up to 28 days after they're born.
It's not like it's anymore than a lump of tissue that cries and poops, right?

Post partum depression is very real and very serious. Men don't get PPD because they don't give birth. That may seem like a double standard to you, but it's biology and psychology and no amount of indignation will make it not so. This woman needs help, and neither she nor her baby will be served best by her being locked up and her baby put in who knows what kind of foster home.

Its because of hormonal changes...its called post partum depression...didnt know men went through that. IMO...it is no excuse, there is help and resources. I was young when I had my eldest son and I can honestly say it was very difficult. But to harm your child, I cant fathom it. Its very sad.

Actually, men's hormonal levels fluctuate more frequently than womens.

IMO anyone who tries to kill their kids is a monster, man or woman, "PPD" or not. I don't care if your hormones are running wild, or if your one can short of a six pack, thats no excuse for murder.

Well, in this case there was no actual harm done. The grandmother stopped the mother from poisoning the kid, and the kid is okay. Locking the mother up until the kid's in high school is not a rational response.

um, i believe it is post partum psychosis that is the bad one, i think post partum depression is just like the baby blues, but psychosis is when women drown their kids....or get them to drink bleach....i may be wrong, but i'm pretty sure it's the psychosis that's the bad one.

It leads to that without proper treatment. Just as any untreated mental health disorder can lead to psychosis. PPD is just as dangerous to both child and mother.

I thought it was "munchhausen by proxy" not PPD that caused this. Either way the child should be removed to a safe place and the mother should have to go through very serious counselling and then toos her no good ass in jail!!!

Given the time period, it doesn't look so much like PPD. Munchausens is a possibility but the article doesn't give enough information really - and it appears she was trying to kill the child, not make them sick for attention (which would be the munchausens).
Either way ... mother needs help and constant supervision.

But then a little bir worse...
It is not something to think lightly of, and it is time doctors figured it out sooner... I had 2, and all in all, it took me 3 years to overcome them...
And yes, I have been thinking of bad things. Luckily, I didn't do them... But I didn't trust myself anymore. And that is very scary.
