Until immigration becomes a state only issue, or that law is changed, the US is currently breaching their own laws right now.

Don't do what you give Beave a finger wagging for. I wrote none of that.

Detention is appropriate while refugee or asylum claims are sorted out. But criminal charges are punitive, because they require the family be separated while in criminal detention. Don't charge them with something that isn't a crime, and separating the family is unnecessary.

Ironically, this policy might be making the US not a 'safe country' under the UNHCR, and might result in more refugee claims in Canada.
