It also helps that the size of the organization can absorb those types of punishment. The CF, of course, is just as firm in their weapon handling policy as any other, but they feel that a serious financial hit is appropriate in incidents with no injury or damage. The troopies peers will take of the rest.

Menard will wear it for the rest of his days (especially during happy hour, mess dinners etc) General or not.

That isn't done in the CF at any rank level for incidents such as this with similar results.

No offense - really - I am just used to a different outfit that demands weapons proficiency even from cooks and the guys who drive the septic trucks.

no you're right, even a basic recruit knows that once the weapon is loaded your finger doesn't go near the trigger unless you are ready to kill someone with it

Even a civilian Gun Club insists that everybody be very proficient and ultra safety minded when handling weapons, a military organization should be at least that strict.

That might be true of some gun clubs but I have been to more than a few where it took me less than 10 minutes to pack up and never set foot in there again. Some of the absolute worst safety violations I had ever seen, a couple of times committed by the fellow who was demonstrating to me the clubs safety policy!

He should have been busted down to Colonel just the same as any other troop would've been busted down a rank for the same offense.

I know a number of cases where there were accidental discharges, not one of them involved a reduction in rank. Fines and/or confinement to barracks is the norm.

ahhh, you can't put the safety on the c8 until the weapon is cocked.

Seriously? You're joking right? Who designed that? BP Oil? can't make it safe until it goes off? lol

If the weapon isn't cocked, it's safe.
