Let the Harper Chicken bashing begin!

Personally I think he did it because he saw that an election now would be unpopular and if he could at least make it look like he tried to avoid it it would go over well. At least now he can say, the liberals and the bloc dragged the country into it.

Jack Layton is just hoping, even praying, that this will make him somewhat relevant.

I think the NDP would back the CPC just due to selfish interests in avoiding an election. They'll bleed seats badly if we goto the polls.

Jack's voted against everything Harper has put on the table. They said they'd vote against the budget before even reading it.

The NDP will support the CPC to save their own ass.

Period.

The hints at EI reform smell like this is a done deal. Harper gets the PR of EI reform and Jack gets to tell his tree-huggers that he extorted EI expansion from the evil fascists. Win win, and it saves us, as Bootlegga estimated, $300M.

$1:
The government is planning to offer an additional 20 weeks of EI for long-tenure workers -- those who have worked at least seven of the last 10 years,

This helps the people who have been caught ip in these hard times, not the short term lazy bastards that don't deserve help and usually vote Liberal anyways.

I on't like it because it ads more to the deficit but it's better than throwing away $300 Million because of Iggy's arogant tantrum.

The die is already cast for Iggy and Harper and it was for Layton as well. If Mr Jackal makes a backroom deal with Harper to save his hide he may look like a hero to some for delaying an election but a villain to his base. He will not have gained any votes from this and will end up turning the NDP into a clone of the Green party.

What people, be they ever so partizan, now welcome an election?
All but the most radical and rabid hacks all agree that there is no solid cause for an election, other than Liberal political vanities.

If Jack and Harper are able to forge an agreement and stall an election, they can trumpet that THEY are making parliament work and bushwack them Liberals in that box canyon. :D

If they forge a truce it will be to hold off the writ, not because there is any common ground. The base of both of these parties are fundamentally opposed to brokering deals. Harper wants a deal because he knows his prospects for more seats is bleak and same for the NDP. They would be lucky to keep what they have. It's a marriage of convenience between two losers both of which have long since burned their bridges and now they want to shake hands? That beds been made.

You ignore the turd in the punch bowl.
No one wants an election. The ONLY one demanding an election is Iggy.

If the left and the right can forge an agreement, that leaves the grits somewhere in a shrinking middle ground with no where to go. They can't challenge the Conservatives on the right and if the NDP can pretend to become a mature party, they can't go left either. Politics IS compromise and if the 2 ends can work together, they can squeeze out the middle.

The only nighty-night I'm hearing is from you and that's because your party went to sleep with fairy tales if Liberal majorities whispered in their ears.

Gee when Iggy was being accused of forcing an election back in June (with his poll numbers higher) and he got the deal done riden you were busying claiming he was scared and forced to sign the deal by bay street bankers. Then when it was all done you gloated and posted opinion pieces showing that Iggy had missed his chance.

Now suddenly with Harper and Layton scared of an election and with Harper backtracking on EI you claim they are making it work?

Your partisan hackery knows no limits does it?
