Can I please see one festival/parade/gathering for the rest of us, meaning not gay/minority/special interest group funded by the government? Hell I'll accept just one festival/parade/gathering for the rest of us.

Why is this even news? Cause it was a "gay" event? Give me a break!

I'm sure tons of people who applied got nothing, and it's newsworthy cause these people are homosexual? What a joke.

There's plenty, all the time. If you don't know, it's because you're too lazy to find out on your own.

Guess its ok if you live in a society of exclusion.. the reason you guys post this is that you are anti-gay.. lets face it. There is no reason all should not be included and that means all colours all races all sexes and all religions... if they funded the pride in Toronto and this group was told they met the requirements it must be a political issue why they are backtracking... I hope every gay, bi, transgendered, lesbian person in this country takes a stand next election.. there are millions of them who have the right to vote.. and vote the torys out! My brother is gay and he has the same rights as everyone else!

They'd pobably be able to secure funding if they weren't parading around nakid. It's pretty stupid to demand money while their breaking the law.

i have a couple of friends who are gay, thats fine, as long as they keep their gayness to themselves, i am not, i dont want my kids exposed to it, and i dont want to have to look at it. BUT this is Canada, if they have met all expectations for funding, then they should get it. if i dont want to see it, i wont look

And they have the same right as everyone else to be denied their application.

This isn't anything new. People are denied these applications in droves, this only made news cause someone is trying to catch a headline, labeling the government as anti-gay cause this particular event didn't get funding.

It's pathetic that it made the news and even more pathetic that you fall for this tripe.

$1:
An Industry Canada spokeswoman said in an email late Tuesday night that a "significant amount" of the total funding available had been granted to events in Quebec.

"Due to the fact that so many worthwhile festivals and events meet the criteria in Quebec, not all applicants will receive MTEP funding," wrote Christiane Fox.

"We encourage all qualified events to apply for next year."

Sounds like they just exceeded the budget.
Can't Quebec fund it's own events for once?

Many applicants met the criteria for funding. Not everyone can get funding who asked.

Thousands of hetero-sexual organizations probably lost out as well, does that mean Harper is anti-Hetero?

No, it means this media hack is a tool looking to make a story capitalizing on the gay community using them as pawns.

on the list of festivals that get denied funding, what is the ratio between gay and heterosexual, and what should the ratio be?

Yah I can go to the lilac festival or the stampede.
Lazy my a$$, I do all kninds of things in and around my community, none of them funded by the government because I'm white straight and of european heritage.
Why do we need a Gay arts festival, what's wroong with just being an artist?
I do art, I'm also a musician, do I tout the fact that I'm the same as the majority, or shout my differences to the country to sell my work to people that wouldn't give a S^&T if I was FOB/Gay or part of a "Group"
Yoru work should speak for itself and if your worth your salt as an artist you don't need to be so specific about where it came from.

Yah but how much funding do they need for ALL thier activities? Theres gotta be a line, I guess that someone thought so this time as well.
Hell I don't care if someone is gay, just don't cram it down our throats. Theres plenty of straight starving artists that have to market their own work, do we really need an art festival dedicated to gays and lesbians?
