The lesbian couple that lived next door to me used to say: "A gay pride parade? I don't need that. Is there a straight pride parade? A white pride parade? And what else than freaks who take the chance to get dressed up will you see there? You will not see the "casual" gay, like me. We don't need that crap."

I think a white pride parade would be a riot.

Okoberfest and St. Patrick's Day are quite fun actually.

Imagine labelling Oktoberfest as White Pride Fest. Wooo eeee.

It's a German pride fest, so it's close enough.

Not really.
It's a Harvest fest. It has been for 200 years.

I don't disagree with you, Brock. But freaks or not, Ford is their mayor too and, like it or not, PRIDE is a major event.

Do you want to attend Pride events with men on stage, naked and masturbating? Yes, I said MASTURBATING.

Perhaps if Pride cleaned up their events, reduced the nudity and public displays of gratification, it would be a respected event instead of a sideshow.

Why spend 355 days fighting for equality then holding a 10 day event showing that you're different [huh]

It's a major event that isn't inclusive. I wouldn't dream of taking my kids to see it. It had it's place at one time but now it's kinda embarrassing.

The Miller’s and the Lastman’s would do anything for a vote and that’s how their taking part came across for me.

I support gay marriage, equality rights for same sex partners and treating gay couples legally and socially as the same as any other couple.

I can’t support extreme political correctness that says Toronto’s mayor has to attend an event that a good chunk of us would find somewhat inappropriate.

If I can’t feel comfortable taking my kids there well, it shouldn’t be seen as a public event that the head of local government should be forced to go to.

Let the lefties on council make hay on this, the majority of people support gay rights and support Ford not having to go to a parade that is made up with scantily dressed people simulating sex acts on public streets.

A white power parade wouldn't be illegal. Should he go to that as well?

This shouldn't be an issue at all. Long weekend....I'd pick the cottage over the city too.

I think EB pretty much nailed it. Skipping out on an uncomfortably "adult" event does not amke one a homophobe. At worst he's a prude.

More likely, he's a man who would rather spend time with his family than attending an event of dubious social value. As mayor of Canada's largest city I would imagine quality family time is hard enough for him to come by. If we start demanding that our elected officials completely give up any semblance of a normal family life in order to serve... well most likely we'll deserve the kind of elected officials we get...

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
I'm all for equal rights for the LGBT members of our community but pilloring the mayor for not going, well it goes against peoples right to choose and makes a mockery of what Pride stands for. PC gone mad. If a fat white guy doesn't want to go to Pride why should he get a hard time? It's not like he was whisked in on the gay vote.

They have equality, now they want everyone to stand up, applaud and affirm (and have the taxpayers pay for it). The gays are like Quebec: they don't want to be equal, they want to be considered perpetual victims. If you don't affirm this they do what they do best: they whine and try and wave their magic 'Bigot' wand to try and brand you since they have no other influence in general society.

Some people will find any excuse to slam Québec. I don't understand the reasons most of the times... envy, ignorance or whatever... and frankly, I don't really care.

Probably something very simple, somebody who came here to hit on our cute French speaking girls and got shot down bad. :(

All the Quebeckers I ever met have been decent, good people. I think the bad old days of ROC vs Quebec are fading into history.

On Rob Ford, the Toronto Star are not letting go on this one.

It's actually very simple.

Among Canadians outside of Quebec, Quebec is seen as a selfish Province with a complete lack of care for the rest of Canada.
