'bout time we returned all these words like gay, tar baby, back into the fold of correct meaning, so the the PC half wits end up legless. Oh sorry cannot use the the words half wit and legless someone may apply racial connotations.

Or better yet ban teacups, then no storms can form inside one.

Language evolves though and sometimes words pick up new meanings that overshadow the previous ones.

We might also ask our elected officials to act towards each other like we are expected to in our respective workplaces. Did he mean it offensively? Like I said before, probably not. Was someone honestly offended by the term? Probably so. Was an apology warranted? I think so and frankly its the civil thing to do and requires so little effort.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you". Teacup gone.

It may not be PC, but most elected officals these days seem to be morons. I don't know if they were born that way or they really had to work at it, on least on my side of the border, so this doesn't suprise me.

RUEZ RUEZ:
The only problem here is that the opposition doesn't realize the term "tar baby" has a legitimate definition. His use of the term was correct, it's not his problem the opposition wants to jump to conclusions.

I totally agree with you here... some Liberals are being rather petty here. Grow up folks... this is a non-issue IMO.

Yea, I agree, but just imagine what some of us would be saying if this was a Lib or a Dipper saying it? The Tory machine would be all over it.

We have ended up with having political parties that are just full of total wankers who are too busy in looking for crap like this and the cat-in-chinese food comment instead of running the country.

How did it ever get this bad?

Our political landscape took a turn for the shitter once the CPC learned how to play the game. They came at the Liberals with the attack ads and partisan crap and it works.....sadly.

There will come a time, such as the turn with Obama in the US when Canada really looks for something or somebody different.

Totally off topic, and not asked in anything other than out of interest, who would you (or anyone else) suggest as a Canadian version of Obama? Interesting?

It's those few words which are at the root of the problem.

We should ensure that words stay true to their correct meanings and not morph into something else.

Have a gay day. [B-o]

We don't have anyone like that in Canadian politics. Nothing even close.

If "hot" were all that mattered, I'd have posted MY photograph. 8)

Mercedes is hot alright, she's even hotter when she debates Michael Coren.

I never realized "tar baby" was a racist term, and in context, there was no racism behind it.

This kinda reminds me of African American councilman in Texas thinking "black hole" was racist when one of his fellow councilmen called some government program a black hole for money. Its stupid.

It's a sad example of guilt by association because it's really a good little story.
