I blame Disney for this non-issue hullabaloo.

Disney won't re-release Song of the South, because it fears PC attack of it on grounds of racial sensitivity. The attack would be unjust. The Uncle Remus stories are great, and go back to folk stories of Africa and India. The stories themselves were banned from most schools and libraries in the 1960s. Crazed PC-ers try to ban Huckleberry Finn from time to time on similar grounds as well.

If Disney had grown a pair, and released Song of the South to video whack-a-doodle ignorants would not be able to take a term like "tar-baby" out of context, because the general public would immediately know when used correctly the term refers to something that sticks to somebody, and can't be easily gotten rid of.

I think Liberal MPs Goodale and Jennings should apologise for putting a racist context on a common phrase.

If people didn't act in a racist manner we wouldn't even have this problem. Its not always about "crazy PC'ers" but about respecting others.

I live in Montreal and I have never heard that term used for the Olympic Stadium.. I have heard it used in reference to black people's kids. It is racist and the young MP should apologize

I just posted a number of examples of Chantal Hebert using the same phrase in the same way, and I've never heard of her being called a racist.

Come on ken, you are hardly the bastion of diversity and tolerance. Your posting history is pretty easy to scroll through to illustrate the point.

Glass houses and all that.

And I think we all agree, it was a silly thing to say and easy fodder for the partisan hacks. Some phrases that were once quite innocent now have nasty connotations. That's the way it is and a politician should know better, that's his job.

Terms used in days gone by are not acceptable now and seen as politically incorrect. Because of diversity and I think we have come along way with that. When I was a kid we used to buy candies that were call N..... babies and we asked for them in stores without much thought. I think that sometimes there isn't alot of thought put into what members of the house from all sides say. The best he can do is what he did.. and add an apology. Personal attacks seem to be the number 1 tory philosophy
