Isn't the Osprey too large, in terms of wingspan, to be used on our frigates? Yeah it'd be great for land-based operations but we always seem to want ship-based capabilities as well so that's probably why no one's seriously considered it for purchase thus far.
The US Navy ginned up a folding wing version of the Osprey for the Marines, I've seen and been on the prototype. I wish the Navy had gone with it but I think they have an institutional aversion to letting the Marines have such a nice toy.
In any case, it is off-the shelf tech if the Royal Canadian Navy wants it.
But wouldn't that be designed for use on amphibs, assault carriers and the like? I can't imagine the Marines designing something like that for use on destroyers and frigates, but rather off the big decks they have like the USS Wasp/USS Inchon.
I doubt that even with its wings folded, it could land on a DDH or FFH.
