Almost 70% of Americans oppose military involvement in Syria. The One will have a difficult sell on this one, I think.

Yes, Obama will need to scare people if he wants support.

Word. Which is why I call BS on the political distraction theory. Mainly because it won't work as a distraction. This would simply be scandal #3 (not 7 Bart).

If Obama actually attacks yeah, but what if he doesn't but just uses the distraction of "what shall we do? I think we'll attack, no wait..."

And Bart deserves credit for understatement here. There's more than 7 scandals.

Well, since there's no way Canada's military can afford to go to war right now I guess we'll have to see what happens when Harper's hawkishness has to compete with his fiscal conservatism.
WTF?

Harper has been cool at best to the idea of doing anything in/for Syria.

~

We live in odd times when the only one in the US government talking sense is Rand Paul.

Why can't Canada's military afford to go to war? You talking money reasons or that the troups are streeched to thin? Some other reason that just does not come to my mind?

I personally think that no country can afford to go to war. Not only financially, but also not mentally. Let's take care of the vets that come back screwed up first before anyone puts boots on the ground anywhere else...

Just my $0.02...

I'm pretty sure his campaign slogan wasn't "fuck America, praise to Allah."

But this is still a brutally stupid thing to do. Why are chemical weapons some magical line? 93,000 dead isn't? The only reason I can think of to start arming the rebels is to keep Hezbollah and Iran busy and distracted, but not even that justifies this kind of stupid.

The line of who's the real danger in Syria has become blurred it's not so cut and dry anymore.

Exactly. There's no good and bad guys there. Just varying shades of bad.

N_Fiddledog N_Fiddledog:
Could there be a bit of the 'Wag the Dog' thing going on here?

The Obama gang has been getting hit by a crapload of inconvenient scandals lately. Can't you kind of see them sitting around Chicago style plotting strategy on some way of distracting from the scandals. Looking for a diversion?

Something like...

"OK whata we got?"

"Well, we hinted we'd jump in on Syria if evidence turned up that chemical weapons were being used?"

"Anything there we can use. Can we sell that one?"

"Sure, somebody was doing something with some kind of chemical a while back, I think. We'll give a few of our favorites at Politico, WaPo and the NY Times a pat on the head and a 'attaboy'. They'll sell it."

Considering it was confirmed months ago they started using chemical, this exactly what I was thinking. Wait for it, next week McDicks will come out with a new McRib sammich.

Pretty silly to get involved in Syria. I hate to say it but unless people start throwing nukes around the ME, the west should stay out of everything. The whole place is a basket case.

Seems that people associate Chem weapons with terrorist. Considering the number of terrorist attacks that have used Chem weapons vs. bombs and shootings its an irational fear.

One might think a greater fear than the Jihadis and the citizens they hide among being chem-ed, would be that Assad is taken down with Western help, and the Jihadis inherit his chemical weapons, which they would inevitably use against us.
