Welcome, brother. You are and always will be amongst friends.

Funny, thats the line the recruiter gave me back when I joined. Maybe the military is looking for socialists.

It's true! I still chat with guys I was on ops with 20 years ago. I can't see that changing.

Yea, it's a little different in this job. Alot more reliance on one another.

Maybe left of centre! We all start off as socialists then we get a reality check! I was well left but 10 years of the job changed my views.

Most were coalminers from the old country so they brought their Communist views with them and still got along with the other british,Italian and other immigrants that flooded these parts looking for a better life.

They also were eager to fight and many died,we still have 3 legions in a municipality of under 10,000 population here, theres a pair of machine guns on the main street a block from me and many memorials to the fallen.

It was quite the effort everyone put in though regardless of political affiliation and some did it for a country that they hadnt been living in long.
I know they interned the Ukranians here because the camp is still in use as minimum security for natives and is 20 minutes from my home.

Communism is easy to hang onto when you work in a dangerous environment that requires a strong union to counter the unsafe work conditions brought on by the profiteers.

Have to admit, EB, that tough I'm a tory, I'm certainly more of a red tory, and this red tory sailor ain't thrilled with the mixed support of the CPC.

I wish. I really like Chuck Strahl. I'd like to see him moving up.

He's a good guy. Not too many others on both sides of the house. Most are just total wankers that we would punch out if we met them in a pub.

I find it interesting and rather ironic that there is somewhat of a debate in this thread about serving in the Canadian Forces and supporting one political party or another. Was it not for the freedom of being permitted to choose who governs one's country that our veterans paid the ultimate price for?

Personally, I feel that if one chooses to make the military their career it matters not who they vote for in an election, what matters is that they perform the job they are assigned to do under whatever direction they are given.

Join up and give me a more informed opinion of why the military vote a particular way.

We are also allowed to have an opinion.

I think we should remove the colon from the thread title.

Yea, well we know where you stand Lemmy. Harper gave a good, non-partisan speech that appealed to those of us who have served, and those who are still serving.

I'd punch out any politician I met in a pub.

Shame Hillier isn't entering the political spectrum, he'd have mad support from in and outside of the CF. The average Canadian relates to the politically incorrect, badass Newfie, while everyone else caters to specific special interest groups and drag the rest of us along for the ride.

I think I speak for more of them than a pot smoking civvy does. No disrespect intended.
