Jim, would you mind expanding on what you mean by \"Jack Layton was not well liked by some\"?

I live in Toronto, but I\'m not sure whether or not you\'re personally unhappy with him, or whether you simply think he\'s unelectable......just wondering.

I agree with lAyton, although I checked out his website, and was disturbed that he never mentioned Canadian sovereignty in his speeches.....he has in other cases, but I think we\'re seeing why he hasn\'t accepted Hellyer\'s proposal to join with CAP. We can\'t hope for a united, centre-left party until at least after the coming election, as Layton is a waffler, like most NDPers. He wants a fair debate on the matter. He\'s still a waffler, just more eloquent than Alexa McDonough.

It\'s been awhile since I saw the documentary, but basically she was asked to head a certain area in Ottawa under Trudeaus cabinet, and from what I gather because she had a good following and had great contacts, and was a WOMAN, when there weren\'t many in politics, she was used, when election time came she was not supported by other Liberals. Someone can correct me on this if I have not got the facts straight, as I said it\'s been awhile since I saw the documentary.

Jack Layton is a breath of fresh air, but he\'s done WAY to much avoiding of the Canadian sovereignty issue at his party gatherings, leaning more towards the seemingly wussy, environment, health nonsense. This is of course a big part of it, but makes him look like a tree-hugger, who won\'t get taken seriously.....as James Laxer says: \"NDPers talk a good game, but....\"

Ther was no no mention of foreign ownership, sovereignty, etc. during his acceptance speech, but more crap about P.R., and what have you. Heck, the Gordon Campbell Liberals have brought in fixed election dates, and Charest/McGuinty have thought about P.R., so that\'s no magica sign of good things to come.

Layton is innovative, but ultimately not the answer.

Switzerland does in fact all have mandatory military training, for men at least. They\'re not the only country to have that.

Mention Hellyer to older canadians and they ALWAYS bring up what he did to the military. The accusations are usually offbase and not completely true.

For that reason alone they will not ever vote for Hellyer - as well he was Liberal under Trudeau.

What exactly DID Hellyer do to the military? And why the hell does every politician have at least one wart?!!

What would you suggest?

I believe Paul Hellyer united the army, navy, and air force under one military body. I`m not sure why people would be disenchanted with this. I would think that this would eliminate alot of bureaucratic B.S. Perhaps I`m missing something here, I don`t know. As for Jack Layton, Itoo, feel that he`s not saying all the things that I`d like to hear. The NDP seems to be a mere shadow of it`s former CCF self! That`s why I`m still sticking with my Canadian Action Party. I mean, I`ll support \'One Big Party\' if it happens. But will it?

Interestingly enough there didn't seem to be any answers posted to the series of "how many" questions in the above article. So, I'm curious now...how many??? How many here have ever lived in the U.S. ? How many here have lived in both places ? How many here have had extensive experience with the border and it's issues? How many here know how many "how many" questions I'm going to ask? How many again? I'm not sure I heard you...and how many points did I prove, I wonder...
