None of these men has ever been charged with, much less convicted of, a single crime. The psychological and physical abuse to which they have been subjected during their incarceration -- and through which their families have suffered in equal measure -- constitutes, at minimum, cruel and unusual treatment. All are fighting deportation to torture.

Please consider joining in by organizing a vigil, rally, or creative action in your community at a government office, CSIS location, or MP's office on Monday, June 26.

In Toronto on June 26, join us in front of the Federal Court at 361 University Avenue at 12:30 pm for a lunch-hour vigil. In March, 2006, a Federal Court judge upheld as "lawfully made" a federal government decision to deport Mahmoud Jaballah to torture or death in Egypt. Mr. Jaballah's security certificate hearing will continue on this day, so if you can join us and Mr. Jaballah's family in court that day as well, that would be great. I thought about this facility today and how it will likely be bursting at the seams now that CSIS is on a role with its new found "spot the terrorist" everywhere you look.

How is it possible in "Canada" to be holding people in jails for days let alone years without charges? I find that so wrong! I hope many turn out for the demonstration as it is very timely. I also hope no one gets shot by our rambo, radio-headsetter, thug-a-likes. They look in pictures to be enjoying their 15 minutes of fame.

We recently paid reparations to the Japanese-Canadians who were unjustly put into camps during WWII. Our government finally acknowledged that they did the wrong thing (and then made the taxpayer pay for their fuck-up).

I have no doubt that one day (hopefully not that far off) reparations will have to be paid to the people unjustly detained for ages without charge or trial. Of course, we already know it's the government's fuck-up (again), not ours. Maybe this time we should make those who voted in the "anti-terror" legislation to pay the reparations out of their own pockets instead of ours. It would only be fair.
