I don't know if the dynamics of race and racism are the same in Canada as they are in America, but I recommend the little known, and definitely not publicized movie "Crash" currently in theatres to anyone looking for a candid (without really resorting to hate mongering) depiction of the subtle and overt types of fear/ racism in America. It's not just a black and white movie either, it touches on the other cultures present here. This one's really good y'all, I'm glad I saw it...

It's set in Southern California. It's scrpit is over the top. If you take that for what American culture is really like, then you need to get out of LALA land- and fast.

The script is over the top???? okaaaay. I take it you haven't seen the movie.

DerbyX: I haven't seen American History X, so I don't know which is better or worse. This particular movie just does a good job of being abt the differences in races/ethnic groups in America without inciting ill feelings toward any particular group at the end of the day, which is kinda rare for a movie of it's kind. So like I said, I recommend it :)

oh and btw USA, I've only been in "Lala" land a coupla years and I kinda like it so far, don't tell me it's already time for me to leave :(
...don't assume you know anything abt. me or what my "perception" is based on a movie recommendation

dkynchic:

American Histrory X deals with black/white race tensions revolving around 1 white family (edward norton; edward furlong) and a black teacher (avery brooks - DS9's captain sisko). It is extremely well done.

check it out : http://imdb.com/title/tt0120586/

You basically said the movie represents the culture presented here in America- I am not assuming anything about you, just a little annoyed at your telling people outside of America to watch "Clash" to get a real feel of what it is like here...................

USA is one of the guys who likes to ignore his own nations problems, nothing gets solved this way. Or maybe he is a racist himself and dosen't even know it.

How about you read what I am actually posting in this thread? It deserves more than your personal insults. This nation's identity isn't made in Southern California.

You're right, this nations identity isn't based in Southern California....but what does the movie being set in southern California have to do with the merit of the movie? I mean, dude, any movie's gotta be set somewhere! The writer chose Southern California, but if you actually saw the movie, you would know that it very well could have been set in Philadelphia or New York or Texas, or maybe even Canada! (Like I said, I don't know what the racial dynamics are in Canada)...but you miss the whole point by knocking it just because you read somewhere it was set in Southern California. It touches on the lives of a few blacks, whites, hispanics, chinese, middle easterners which is kinda representative of the melting pot in America and not just Southern California! I liked it...doesn't mean you have to, but at least make up your own mind abt it instead of knocking it just 'cause or worse yet, quoting someone else's review.

It's a good movie and isn't gonna make anyone think America's a racist country if that's what you're worried about  :P. Laters...
