Henry Rollins is coming to Winnipeg with his spoken word tour. The former front man for Black Flag, political activist and societal critic is coming to the Burton Cummings Theatre.

I'm gonna go see him. 8)

I always loved Black Flag. Henry Rollins has always been good for destroying the misconception that heavy music is only played by and listened to by angry uneducated guys.

Yeah, they kind of carried folk/punk lyrics and ideas into a whole new realm. What's always amazed me about Rollins is how funny he is. He doesn't look like a guy who'd be quick with a phrase or willing to make fun of himself, so it kind of catches you by surprise.

If you ever get a chance to go see Henry Rollins, do it. Fuck, I went three hours without a smoke it was so good.

That's right, this guy talked for three hours. He took three sips of water. There was no intermission. If any of you have ever done any public speaking you know that 5 minutes is an eternity and 15 minutes almost unthinkable. I used to do 1 hour training sessions and it just about killed me every time. Henry Rollins does three hours and you don't even really notice.

Rollins was so good that even the airhead behind us shut up and actually listened. It was entertaining as hell...informative, funny and, because it was Henry Rollins, just a wee bit rude.

It doesn't matter whether he's talking about making a record with William Shatner, George Bush's complete incompetence, going to Afghanistan on a USO tour, or wearing a helmut while jerking off. The man is hilarious and he always has a point. Sometimes it takes a while to get to that point, but you never notice.

So he'll be on in a town near you sometime soon. Apparently he's going on another USO tour...this time to Bahgdad, when he finishes this tour, but he'll be back out after that. Spend the money. Go have fun. Learn a bit.

He'll be back, RH. His story about his six-year love affair with Sheryl Crowe is worth the price of a ticket.

A friend of mine in Oklahoma uploaded some Rollins talk stuff to my server a number of years back. I was very slow to get around to listening to it. There were issues I had, and thought that this friend was poking at me in subtle ways.

Subtle is not a word to describe Rollins. I damn near pissed myself laughing. He is blunt, open, intelligent, sometimes crass, certainly not direct, but well worth listening to. Whenever I burn cds for people of stuff I have kicking around (very little copyright breaching) I usually throw the Rollins stuff I have in mp3 format on the disc as well, just because. Invariable they find it funny, and pass the obsession on to others.

If I ever have the financial chance to see him live I will be there.

Rollins is so wickedly funny! The last time he played/spoke in Ontario I missed out and vowed to never miss out again. He's gotta be the hardest working man in music.. looking at his website, the man's done so much! music, movies, books, spoken word, etc.. simply wow! :D

Of course Rollins can do a three hour speech. Look at him. He works out until he cant move anymore, three hours of speeking is nothing to him.
Tugging with a helmet? Probably makes it safer.
