I think the point being made is that since Newfoundland does not support the current government, and since there are ongoing, unresolved issues between Newfoundland and the federal government (and between Newfoundland and Quebec, for that matter), that Newfoundland should separate from Canada.

The fact that Newfoundland is such an economic powerhouse, fully intergrated into world trade, practically guarantees prosperity for all Newfoundlanders should it separate. :D

Now for a Grade 10 person in NFLD not to know who Joey Smallwood is...well, we can't help you Jess. You need to read up on NFLD history.

Jess, an election was held and not one seat in the federal election went to the Harper goverment from Newfoundland or Labrador. So Newfoundland has no reps there. Newfoundland has a Provincial leader (Danny) that had an agreement with the HArper government called the atlantic accord. They had a disagreement and it failed as a result relations between the provincial government and the Federal one are at an all time low.

It is important to know is that in Canada we have three levels of government and in this case two of them are working against each other.

I find it disturbing that some of the Conservative posters want NFLD to seperate or wouldn't care if they did. That is just bitter conquer and divide politics. Did the Liberals suggest Alberta be kicked out of the country because its all Conservative seats, i dont think so.

No, they'd rather rape and pillage Alberta, and why not?

It's not as if they'd stand to lose anything by doing it (Alberta doesn't elect Federal Liberals), and it plays well in TO no doubt.

Not to start an argument here or anything but I'm not seeing anyone posting in this thread advocating that Newfoundland separate Trev. Even if there are some people saying stuff like that just because they're Conservative it doesn't mean they represent the views of all Conservatives, no more than some of more extreme the NDP or Liberal posters represent the views of each of their perspective parties.

As far as Danny's beef with the fed's it's not just limited to the Conservatives. Remember his famous meeting with Martin on health care? I don't think he was in Ottawa more than 30 seconds before he declared there was no deal to be made and that Martin was trying to screw him over (I don't have a link to the exact wording that was used but that was the general jist of it).

If anyone is playing politics it's Williams. He's been using this "fight the Federal government" BS simply to hold onto his seat. I don't feel that anyone wants to see this type of divisive politics but at the same time I don't think it's the conservatives intention for it to be this way no more than I think it was Martins intensions for it to be that way when he was PM either.

Not true, up until the 2006 election the Liberals had seats in the Edmonton area.

I think people need to remember that the resources were here long before there was a province (Provinces being imaginary lines drawn on a map). Canada is not Canada if any province were to separate.

With that said. I guess Canada's resources belongs to France, being they colonized Canada first.
