The Tories have been trying hard to keep reporters from talking to candidates that are believed to hold controversial views on social issues.

One week earlier, Harper paid a visit to controversial Ontario Tory MP Cheryl Gallant while the media bus travelled on, its occupants oblivious to where the Conservative leader was headed.

The outspoken Gallant helped sink Harper's hopes in the 2004 campaign when she likened abortion to the beheadings by Islamic terrorists in Iraq.

It seems odd that anyone would vote for candidates who are not allowed to talk to the media and express their viewpoints.

Why not let then speak? What are they hiding?

Because when they're not elected Harper no longer has any power over them and they go back to their day jobs as church janitors?

Where's Liberal MP, Tom Wappell?

Mr. Wappell didn't open his campaign office until 2 weeks ago. Further, he has been ducking all candidates meetings and he's not out door knocking.

Could the Liberals be muzzling the man who thinks abortion should be a criminal offence with a sentence of life in jail?

Could the Liberals be muzzling a man that things gay people can't make a family?

Why didn't Martin let Judi Longfield speak?

Why didn't Martin allow Gary Carr to speak?

The road goes both ways Liberals. Open your damn eyes.

Shame on both of them.

I think a better question should be why are these type of people the ones who are running? Shouldn't people with more broader views of that are reflected within thier own constituents be the ones who are running for the seat? Why is it that the controversial ones have to be silenced? No politician should ever have to think they need to keep quiet for fear of backlash. At least not in ta manner that makes them sound like extremists.

I find it scary to think of the types of people who MIGHT be getting into office in these parties.

Who is letting this type of crap happen?

I guess this quote has been twisted, right?

"You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." (Stephen Harper, Report Newsmagazine, January 22, 2001)

But there is a difference between someone twisting your words and just having twisted words period. I mean if thier own party thinks they should just not speak then there are issues waaaaaay beyond just the typical media "lets blow this outta proportion" scheme.

Personally if I knew that my candidate wasnt talking to the media and not showing up at the debates I would have to take a serious look into why they refuse to talk to the exact people they are representing.

hmmm I have to say that or that quote that hes pretty much hit it on the head. The immigrants to western Canada don't vote the same way as the locals and they do tend to live in concentrated in areas. But it was contrused as if harper hated immigrants...

He sounds like Jaques Pariseau when he blamed the fact that the separatists lost the referendum on the ethnic vote.....

Minorities usually vote liberal, because liberals are usually more accepting of people with differences....
