canada also had eugenics programs in the early 20th century. it's in edwin black's "war against the weak" which is mostly about the US eugenics programs, but canada is mentioned a bit.

There are several books on the eugenics program in Canada. I had the sudden thought that we're currently in a phase of 'economic eugenics' where the political climate makes it 'undesirable' to have many kids, while the labour force can be stocked by immigration. People who are 'getting by' fairly well don't notice it, but the threat of losing one's job to somebody else is so permeated our society that unionization is almost unthinkable-just take a look at our largest industry-the service industry, where unions are practically non-existent (as are wages).
