Freakinoldguy Freakinoldguy: The team is maturing. Glenn throwing that interception on the one yard line would have killed them two games ago but this time they took it in stride and came back. It might be now they know that at QB they've got a guy who could stop more drives than a Montana blizzard but who, has the inherent ability to come back harder and better after he screws up which is what he's done for his entire career. Apparently, they haven't matured enough, Freakin' - at least not from what I saw yesterday. We're right back where we were around this time last year with a 1 and 3 record. Some improvement that. I am in complete agreement with what Rob Vanstone had to say in the Leaderpost today. "The record, however, does not lie. They are 1-3, again, and not even remotely comparable to the West Division’s elite clubs — Calgary, the B.C. Lions and the Edmonton Eskimos. At best, the Roughriders look like a team that could challenge Winnipeg (2-2) for fourth place and a crossover berth in the East Division playoffs. Thanks to the sideline strategies of Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea, there is always a modicum of hope for Saskatchewan. So this is what it has come to? Roughriders president-CEO Craig Reynolds keeps talking about sustained success. It is to laugh, when you look at the results. If not for a bye week, the Roughriders wouldn’t have been able to sustain their most-recent success for more than a week. The minimum standard used to be a home playoff game. Now the only realistic aspiration is for the Roughriders to squeak into the playoffs, somehow, maybe." http://leaderpost.com/sports/football/c ... to-reality

The only thing the Roughriders can challenge for is the basement of the CFL, although the 'Cats have a solid hold on it. Winnipeg will start getting their shit together soon and rise in the standings, probably to 2nd in the West. -J.

This team is still a hot mess and for the record Winnipeg isn't the only team with questionable coaching decisions but, with that aside this team has some real issues both on the field and off. When our supposedly intelligent coaching staff didn't prepare properly for Charleston Hughes in the first half it cost us dearly and put us behind the proverbial eight ball right from the start. Poor coaching decisions are unconscionable at a professional level. You may not have the right or even the best players but at least send them out prepared, something our GM and head coach didn't think was necessary till the second half. And why has our GM with all the supposed connections in the States still not been able to find a CFL calibre QB that isn't over the hill and older than the dirt under Mosaic stadium. A fact which begs the question. Why can someone like Wally Buono find QB's under every rock he picks up but we can't find one out of the thousands of college kids languishing without jobs in the US or Canada? And last but not least, one of my favourites. The three man rush while using the LB's to help a hapless core of DB's cover receivers. For some reason our head coach has decided that a 3 man rush is the most effective way to put pressure on the opposing QB and stop rampaging RB's like Jerome Messam. I don't know about anyone else but from what I've seen in the last 4 games we aren't putting pressure on anyone except the soon to be "completely" pissed off Rider fans. If Jones can't find a QB under retirement age and at least one DB who can play man coverage this is going to be an extremely long year and a half because if the lack of results are any indication, Jones is using his windfall payday as a monetary respite before moving on to somewhere more in tune with his unique coaching styles. Given the dismal performances, lack of consistency and lack of improvement makes me think we got taken by a Lyle Lanley type conman who was all style and no substance. 0:

KISS - keep it simple stupid. Jones has proven himself to be totally incapable of holding so many positions. I blame Rider management for this screw-up. They off-loaded way too much of their responsibility onto this guy, freakin' - and they should be held to account for that, IMO. The only way out of this mess is for Jones to be stripped of all responsibilities save for the job of coaching. I would love to see him demoted to defensive coach - a job he is by reputation, good at. However, I do not trust the clowns running the Rider org to find a really good replacement, especially this time of the year. So, stick with Mr Sunglasses and see what he can do when he is able to focus on one thing and one thing only, building a winning team. I also think it is about time for a shake-up in the head office. I have no faith in this bunch at all.

Winnipeg fans were treated to one helluva of a game tonight. The final score was 41 to 40.............for the HOOVERS! It was a highlight reel finish with Winnipeg scoring the winning TD as the clock ran out. Until that point it looked as if Montreal had the game in hand. Justin Medlock's onside kick, recovered by the Hoovers with :48 seconds on the clock, was the catalyst for a remarkable show of perseverance especially by Matt Nicols who took the ball for a 9+ yard run that put him a yard short of the goal-line. Andrew Harris bulled his way over and the Hoovers put a W on the board. It was a great game by both teams.

The Toronto Argonauts will be in Mosaic Stadium today to take-on my Riders. I'm hoping for a good game and the very minimum of coach's challenges which I am finding increasingly infuriating.
GO RIDERS!

I missed last nights Lions game due to being at work. Too bad for the loss but it's looking like Edmonton is having a great start to the season.

GO RIDERS! You're not the only one. It seems to be a consensus throughout the league that there's way to many challenge flags and replays which, slow the game down and make it more like watching the Mogidushu snail races than football. As for tonight. I hope I'm wrong but if I was to make a prediction it would be that we lose at home and Rider Nation ups the calls for Jones and Reynolds heads on stakes outside Mosaic stadium.. I guess the question really becomes who the hell puts a banker in charge of a football club? He might be great for managing the bottom line, something that matters but only if you're not winning and not called the Roughriders. We're financially sound so the decisions to install Reynolds as President shows just how out of touch with football the Board of Governors really is. GO RIDERS

Well there is nothing like back-to-back highlight reel TDs to chase the blues away. Granted it took them well over 25 minutes to put the first major on the board during which time the O languished as the D gifted multi-yardage to the opposition. I was ready to reach into the TV and rip those damn glasses off Jones' face.
Then......Roosevelt had that great catch for our first TD..........and along came Carter. Back-handed, one-handed catch with a wobbly landing that saw him securing the ball against his knew only to rise and hold it high - all with the same hand. It will be the talk of the football twitter world and top of the high-light reel plays.
The TDs mellowed my ire........for now.
I still believe Jones needs to concentrate on the game and leave the office stuff for the board - that's their job. Reynold's needs to go at the end of the season. If Jones can coach us a winning football team, learns to be humble and adopt some Rider Pride, he can stay. I have never doubted his coaching abilities - just his methodology.

Duron Carter back-handed, one-handed catch for TD 2027.jpg [ 103.26 KiB | Viewed 460 times ]
Duron Carter: Back-handed, one-handed catch in the end zone for a Rider TD.......and a plethora of high-light reel spots. It was the most unbelievable catch I have ever seen, hands down. It took the Riders all of one quarter and the better part of another but when they found their groove, they were pretty special. And the most special among them was Duron Carter who for several plays became the only guy on the field Kevin went too or the play dictated, and he delivered every single time. If that single performance wasn't enough, the Riders had Naaman Roosevelt and Bakari Grant as back-ups with highlight worthy catches of their own. Once the defence got a grip on their generous gesture of gifting multi-yardage to the opposition and settled down to doing their jobs, they performed better than expected - this was Rickie Ray they were playing against. And lest I forget, Kevin Glenn once again proved that he is capable of coming back from a deficit position and take the team to a win. If I have any doubts, they lie in the fact that there are a few teams in this league that given as much time as the Argos had tonight to drive up the score, would have. The Riders have to be quicker off the mark ...............but hey, they won tonight and I am one very very happy camper.

I'm happy to although I'm a little concerned that this is still a jekyl and hyde team which means after they've spent the next week congratulating themselves and puffing up their chests they're gonna forget what got them this win. A win that was pretty much assured by Carter having his coming out party as a Rider and Marshall showing why Jones got him from Winnipeg. Without those two we don't win so the rest of the team had better get their shat together for next week because we can't always rely on two people to step it up enough to take the load off them especially when your team has Kevin Glenn the momentum killer lurking. But it was nice to see that Jones finally relented and rushed 4 which helped keep Ricky Ray off balance and the 5 sacks helped. So, here's hoping next week is an even better performance.

Roosevelt and Grant deserve a bit of praise too, Freakin' - they were in the game before Carter finally found his groove. That said, I do hope that the team is able to build on this win as I agree that it can be a toss up as to which team we see take to the field - one that is built to win or one that is completely stymied by the opposition. I'd love nothing better than to see them go into BC Place and teach the pussy-cats a lesson.

Riders vs Lions
Well that was disappointing. I'm simply grateful to Duron Carter and Brandon Bridge for saving us from utter ignominy at the claws of the Lions.
The first three quarters were totally forgettable and a good part of the 4th was much the same. Kevin was pulled after he gave up his second interception of the game and in came Brandon Bridge. He quickly found Carter in the end zone for a 46-yard TD. On their next set of downs, Brandon found Naaman Roosevelt for a 45-yard TD and the 2-point convert had us down by 15 points. Trouble is that only 1:21 remained on the clock in the 4th.
The Lions prowled their way to a 30 - 15 win.

I missed the first half of the game but saw most of the 2nd half. I'm happy about the result because the Lions need all the points they can get considering how well Edmonton and Calgary are doing so far this season.
