Creative Assembly is returning to the basics

With 10 years to hone their craft this remake should be a masterpiece. Played the original along with Rome, Medieval 1 and 2 but have yet to try Napoleon. I tried the demo and my system at the time could not handle it and the bugs were game breaking. I hear they have sorted that out now though and the high seas battles look like great fun but the heart and soul is the ground battles. They were either going to start modern battles like WWI after that but I think revisiting the game that started it all was a good idea. Much has changed since that 1st came out and all those lessons learned will make for a superior game.

I own and play all of their games, Shogun was also my first and is likely the reason I have become addicted to nation running games. I have been waiting and praying for Shogun 2 for a long time. Though it has to wait until Rome 2 is released.

Love Rome Total War, never tried any of the other ones.
Presently playing the Parthians in very difficult mode. Tough going.
Napoleon sounds fun.
Used to play L'Emperor on the old nintendo I think it was. Anyone remember that game?

Ya, I'm gonna pick up Napoleon this weekend. Never picked up Empire at the time because it was so buggy and the history aspect of following all his great campaigns sounds really intriguing.

Looks like the new DLC in Spain is good too:

I've got Empire: Total war. Nothing like sailing a small armada of first class ships of the line, interspersed with cannonade frigates through enemy formations. My suggestion would be allowing certain ships to bombard shore facilities.

The first Shogun game was a lot of fun, with good graphics (for the time) and a decent AI.

The thing that always drove me crazy was that your missile troops (archers/musket troops) almost always ran out of ammunition before the battle was over and became totally useless. Accurate, but as a fan of strategy games, frustrating.

I remember that feeling in Rome: Total War. Did any of the latter games give you a supply wagon? I mean, I think that'd be good counter to something like that.

Try Medieval II. That's a lot of fun with the Stainless Steel mod

I have every Total War game ever made except Nepoleon: Total War which I thought looked horrible. Everything from Shogun - Empire: Total War. IMO I would have much prefered a new Rome, that was my favorite of the series. Not going to complain about a new Total War game though, Shogun 2 should be awesome.

I am however not too pleased about the hero units they are apparently adding, that are so overpowered they can hold a bridge against a army by themselves or so sais the article writer. If that's true, that alone almost deters me not to buy it. If it's not, than it's going to be a kickass game.

Oh man, I love that Mod. I still play Rome: Total War with the Total Realism mod which is like Stainless Steel for RTW. So awesome.

I'm playing NTW now and it is AMAZING. A lot better AI and superior interface to empire. There some more eye candy and it scales better for low end systems so it is inherently more stable the Empire was. To me NTW over empire is like the L4D2 vs L4D. Yes the are essentially the same game but the older version is frankly the beta to the newer one. If you haven't picked up either get NTW but if you already have Empire NTW is not a huge advancement. Still the multi-player campaigns in NTW where you can hop into anyone's single player campaign and fight as the AI is great fun.

That and NTW has WWI mod:
