Meh, s'ok. Port Royale II is a better trading game, Pirates is more of an arcade game. Lots of quests but really it gets old fast once you beat it once. Lack of variety, no multi player and massive repetition are it's weak points. That being said it is still fun. Sid Meir makes the interface simplicity itself the graphics are great and the sword fighting is fun but the same scenes over and over again make it dull. Check out Pirates of the Burning Sea if you want a cool looking multi player pirate sim.

I played it as a strategy game. and it is still fun i just never played it long enough to beat it..probably because of always killing off the spanish trade ships too fast.

I really enjoy it. It's fun. It is pretty simple though and can get repetitive. I've never played any other pirate games though so I don't have anything to compare it to.
