Caelon Caelon:
I found out the hard way when a few days later when I caught Covid after sitting beside a non masking person who was coughing. My symptoms lasted about a week, but it was close to two weeks before I didn't test positive.

Sorry to hear that Caelon.

We know a couple that went to the east coast in October and on their flight back to BC there was a fellow sitting behind them who coughed constantly and when they returned they both got quite sick and tested positive. They had a rough go of it.

Lawyer challenging B.C. COVID-19 orders says class action could result in 3 million claims

$1:
The lawyer for a group seeking to certify a class action lawsuit against B.C.'s provincial health officer for damages allegedly caused by unjustified COVID-19-related orders says the proceedings could result in as many as three million claims.

Polina Furtula told B.C. Supreme Court Justice David Crerar Tuesday the Canadian Society for the Advancement of Science in Public Policy would seek both a lump sum to punish the province for breaching charter rights and specific amounts tailored to damages alleged by individuals.

...

The CSASPP's website says the group is a "non-profit, non-partisan, secular, crowd-funded, and volunteer-driven organization that was created in response to popular community demand for a direct action initiative to counter B.C.'s COVID-19 related measures."

So, an organization with a long acronym and described with hyphenated and current catchy terms.

This is utter BS and a waste of time and money.

A 75 years old guy (pretty fit for his age too) in the neighbourhood caught Covid. Died four days after getting sick.

Strutz Strutz:
So... I'm just curious. No judgment or assumptions at all intended.

Do others on here still wear masks when in a public place, such as in grocery/other stores or on public transit etc?

I do and I don't give a crap about what anyone thinks about it as it is my personal decision. I just went back to work a few weeks ago (retail) and I am only working 2 days/week right now but I do wear a mask while working as well as wearing one when I go into any stores or other public places. I have definitely noticed a sharp decline in the number of people who do wear one though I respect that without any mandates everyone is free to make their own decision about it.

My child is immuno-compromised, so we've kept wearing masks, socially distancing and in general isolating ourselves during the winter because of it.

Despite that, we still all got it in the summer sometime, I think it was when we were in Jasper and almost nobody else was masking (indoors or out). I had mild symptoms, just a sore throat and some coughing, but everyone else had fevers/chills, headaches, coughs, sore throats, etc. That delayed getting our boosters until two weeks ago, but it meant we could get the bi-valent version, so hopefully it worked out okay. We got our flu shots in October, so with luck we'll avoid that this year.

We're still deciding whether or not to attend the family Christmas gathering, and I think that will come down to whether or not anyone is coughing/sneezing.

That would be sad I'm sure to miss a gathering of your family but it is still best to be cautious. A friend of ours attended a celebration of life for a family member this past summer and unfortunately she came back, got sick, and tested positive for covid. A few members of her family are anti-maskers/vaxxers/believers so it wasn't too shocking but at least her elderly parents did not get ill though they were not around everyone as much as she was.

Scape Scape:

Vaccine hesitancy is typically higher in rural areas, and in many provinces, fatal/injury crashes are more common in rural areas, so this isn't really a surprise.

Sounds cold, but maybe this is the wave that takes all the anti-vaxxers

I don't think it's cold. They were warned. They chose differently.

I suspect we will see a surge here early in the New Year. Then again, with the weather across the country being so awful there may be less people able to get together which may not be such a bad thing. We shall see.
